ROM - The Reverse of Fairness

I am PSG-26 and I was in that ROM room for 3 days. Absolutely unbeliavble the amount of unfairness that went on. It really sucks to be white, old, outspoken, not liked or in the wrong place at the wrong time. It rules to be black, asian, indian, ass kissing yes man, family member. I am literally speechless and disgusted.

You still have till next Friday so please demand the due process evidence from HR before leaving. You have that RIGHT and make sure to document it in email. Don’t by shy to mention getting a lawyer.

Brothers and sisters get your lawyers and start digging. You won’t get your job back but most likely you will get 250K + just to go away. Chevron have a legal responsibility to release the evidence for the due process that took place. Being in that room I know what took place and I know HR & Chevron is in trouble.

Odds are you'll find that a good percentage of the older employees that were let go where white. Who cares? These fields have been dominated by white males and to a lesser degree white females as this is the nature of the oil and gas industry. If an NHL team were to cut players would you be screaming that is was only white males?

In Oyo we dont have a Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton to call them something else. We unlike you have no race card to play. One of many things great about Africa is,

qouting Richard Pryor " There are no niggers in Africa " or your "THUG" culture MUMU !

Yeah cause we all know there aren't any "thugs" in Nigeria since its completely crime free. I am sure 100% of the Nigerian population is the same as a qualified expat with an engineering degree. Stay classy my friend.

OK folks, I am in my 50s and have worked hard all my life. I lost my job likely because I am older and make a bit more money than the youngsters (for many years of hard works). Since I am Asian should I blame it on white or black folks for my misfortune? Personally I dont care whether a person is white or black, I ran into nioce people as well as XXXXX in both groups, but in general white folks should know that while life is not always fair you're darn lucky to be born white. It is tough to be black as very often you're not judged by your integrity, ability, or character. Most black folks are fine being black but I know it is difficult for them. If you feel you're dealt with some injustice, would you seriously think things are better if you're black?

Black people make up 1.5% of Chevron's U.S. Payroll. There is no way all the black folks over 50 are steeling all the old white folks jobs.

So when a black person complains that they are being treated unfairly because they are black, some white people will roll their eyes and say "oh great...another whiner who plays the race card....". But I guess it's ok for a white person to play the race card ????? NO, a white person whining and playing the race card isn't any better than a black person doing the same. It's lame.....period.

Don't rely on CNN or FOX...either of those will make you lose brain cells...

CNN is Chevron's official channel, try changing it to FOX and watch The Chevron Way middle managers change it back and put up signs saying do not change the channel.

Can someone explain how an ITC manager was allowed to have an affair with a contractor working in his org and his poor wife worked at Chevron and nothing happened. Sham Sham Sham Bill and Lynn. Watson where are you with all your Chevron Ways??????? Chevron is all talk.

This is why people have no respect for ITC managers. Poor leadership as I always thought.

Apparently Chevron forces you to watch videos on Integrity but has none.

Not a place I would want my child to take a job.

I agree, Chevron is releasing more white males over 50 and keeping black males over 50 that have no idea how to be a manager yet alone a leader and get nothing done. Where are the lawyers asking for class action?

Chevron will pay off before they let the world know how bad they really where with the ROM's. I am curious how many 50+ people and what nationalities numbers they let go.

The nepotism and cover-your-boss' ass management system is The Chevron Way at Chevron. Stockholders should know, once the oil price is back to $80 or more, Chevron is still a smokestack era company, with layers of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, sons, daughters, godsons, and mafia-like lieutenants.

"keeping people to meet a quota is unfair", but keeping people because they are better is fair, right? Right. Unfortunately, to a white guy white people are always better, is this fair?

If anyone is treated better than someone else and is considered better based on anything other than their ability to perform their job and to fit in properly (which may include being there for a while (age is important here) if that is required then it is unfair. I don't know if the OP actually has a case but he/she very well could.

In other words, keeping people to meet a quota is unfair. It may be politically correct and attractive to certain parties, but it is still unfair. It is just as unfair to discriminate against someone for not being a certain race, sex, etc. as it is for being one. It is possible that CVX has more pressure on them from certain politically/civil rights based and financed entities than employees know about.

I have worked with many levels of leadership and it is true that some seem to be "owned" by certain groups. It is disappointing to see such segregation. All you have to do is look at the org charts to see that the people in charge tend to hire people like them. And some are horrible managers, but they end up in leadership positions because they are in the local clique whether it is the good ole' boy, asian or something else. But if you look at the top layer it is all white men, so the same people still run the show. I hate to say it, but the biggest productivity suck usually comes from leadership. many are just unable to make a decision. They toss the hot potato around and around while workers try to figure out which direction to go in. As for nepotism, that has been going on at all levels for many years. It can get pretty tangled and uncomfortable at times but it is all over the company. People are savvy about keeping different last names so you need to watch yourself. After years of re-orgs, I've never seen any improvement in productivity overall. I just see things that used to take one or two days now take weeks. I see zero trust in some groups, which is devastating to productivity. There is a general lack of leadership. Few leaders are willing to accept the responsibility that comes with their roles. Instead, they focus on outsourcing more and more of the work to low-cost geographies. They should have to spend time in the trenches, trying to get something done when people barely speak the same language, making even the most basic task exceedingly difficult. Some outsourcing works well, but it should be limited. They think they save a few bucks, but the metrics for outsourcing are not even close to accurate. It is all about the optics. Not all the leadership's fault, as the middle managers and others keep things from them to save their own skin. I wasn't affected by the ROM, but I am starting to feel like to be a hamster on a wheel, so I have accepted a position elsewhere. I feel nothing but relief. I'm old enough to know the grass isn't greener, but at least I'll be able to get off the slow train and do something interesting and challenging.

$250k to "go away"? Waah! There are many degrees professionals out in the industry that are being let go on the spot wth no "severance". Part of the problem is that lifers have become like Welfare recipients: do nothing to earn their monthly allowance and screen very load when it's taken away. STFU whiners!

Seriously? I would never have thought such a thing would happen as it's so against The CVX Way behaviours.

I mean there are surely no folks employed only due to their folks being up the food chain?

Never in Chevron would that be allowed to happen.
