One advantage to testing for drugs prior to employment is that it deters drug users from applying in the first place. One of my co-workers told me that a basic reason he even came to WFM was that there was no pre-employment drug screening. He knew he could continue to use and I came to suspect that it was way more than just an occasional hit of Colorado after work. One guy in Specialty would come in so spaced out. I was working nearby and asked him something really basic about a promotion for a customer and he just stared back at me, kind of half-smiling and said, "Wow." The light was on but no one was home. I mean the guy was just baked. Probably had just done like 12 bong hits.

Whole Foods is a don't ask don't tell on drug use unless you report a manger for inappropriate behavior.
Pre-employment and random drug screenings would solve a LOT of problems the company has. Yes, drug use and drinking are personal problems but when people are under the influence on the job it's a safety and performance issue. Druggies don't bother to apply at companies that screen. That's a fact. And in fact, WFM is known as a company that doesn't screen nor randomly test so the word is out, if you use drugs, head right down to WFM because unlike 99% of all major employers, it won't prevent you from being hired.
That's an example of a lack of discretion and professionalism. Your job may not require all of your mental capacity to perform well, I know mine doesn't... But business should still be handled separately.
My boss is the store weed man. Money changing hands in front of customers, and tms. Leadership knows. A previous astl, "if you can still do your job well while you're high, it's not a big deal" tms being high is the reality. Like it or not.
And you think pre-employment drug testing is the solution to our problems as a company?
If you come in high or drunk they will fire you. Tons of retail jobs do not drug test so I'm not sure how they are any different.
Check your facts. If someone shows up to work and is unable to do their job due to being inebriated, they are subject to corrective action and/or dismissal.
You should get leadership involved if a co worker can't handle themselves.
stupid post. been with WFM over 20 years and dealt with WAY more alcoholics than druggies. as a matter of fact, i can count on half my hand the number of drug probs we've had to work with. wish i could say the same about drunks.
