Store Closings

Follow the money (as deep throat said). The closings are slowing, but it's only because of ONE thing. They thought they would waltz threw to a merger. Once complete they already have a master list of stores to be closed. I'm thinking the full list will be near 1200 but they can't execute the plan because it depends on the merger.

If the merger gets cancelled (as I expect) they still have a list of about 500 Staples stores to be closed.

Oh by the way they CAN track you (with great difficulty) on this site. So be somewhat careful in HOW you word things. They already spotted me but in my case it does them no good heheheh...

I went into a local Staples here where they retained a "top talent" manger. The store looked worse than a badly run dollar store. Missing tags, pealing, worn counters with packing tape holding up old crinkled printed banners of a sale gone by. The DM and RVP of this store should be ashamed of themselves. So happy I don't work for Staples anymore.

Combined. But this was well known before the merger. FTC knows this ahead of time. It wouldn't stop a merger. Because they weigh the cost of running two companies as separate entities. If OD continues on its own, they will close all retail business within 10 years. And the projection is Staples getting out of big box business and running online only within 15 years. The merger may actually keep the companies in retail business longer. If both companies close then Walmart gets a monopoly on the in-store sales of ink cartridges and office supplies.

1200 is a combined estimate. They will not only eliminate nearly all stores under 4 million but they will also close numerous locations that are in the same market. If the FTC knows that they might take a much harder look at the merger.

Is that 1200 Staples stores or 1200 combined Staples and OD, if the merger goes through?
