No kidding! Exactly my reaction when I was laid off in April. It was such a shock, and I was so angry. I asked the DIR and HR rep exactly what selection criteria was used to pick me, because it was obviously not performance based! The DIR just left the room, and the HR rep told me the direction to eliminate poor performers was just a rumor. Turns out the company was/is eliminating COST, e.g. older, higher paid employees. If a younger employee was/is laid off, more than likely the employee was a poor performer or just not a good fit for the company, or they were a sacrificial lamb for some sorry supervisor. They are letting those young people go at the same time as older employees to avoid age discrimination lawsuits. BTW - 1) I was not thanked for my 35 years of service, 2) My DIR was forced to retire during the fall layoffs, & 3) my MGR was given a "step-down" in the organization.
You're in good company - was laid off in Canada in March with yrs of 2+ ratings. Honestly, this has nothing to do with job performance. In Canada, it was more of cleansing - had to get rid of all the 'outsiders', you know, just to ensure the corporate culture NEVER changes.......
Isn't cop great. Guess u didn't blow or kiss
