174056 - see your problem, according to COPC, was having the gall to take 1 yr away from work to spend with your newborn. Obviously, with that level of commitment you are NOT management, or even COPC 'worker bee' material - thus, the 'good luck in your future endeavors'. Obviously, I'm only joking - you're correct, it is total bullshit. Should have asked for a reason for the dismissal - I'd have loved to hear somebody try to explain that it was performance based.......
I was let go over the phone on maternity leave. I am super angry as I know it was constructive dismissal as I watched my job fade over the year. Plus they extended my replacement's contract until January. I am speaking with a lawyer and glad that I won't be working for this bullshit person anymore. I feel super betrayed after working my ass off for 4 years and sacrificing time and energy to work long days and nights. Good bye CPC and good riddance.
Count your blessings. The Canada BU is a joke!
Sorry, good luck
Thank you for the info. How was the departure handled? Are any particular groups getting hit more than others?
Speaking as one who got laid off from then Gulf Canada long ago, it was traumatic at the time but was very definately the best thing that ever happened to my career.
My suggestion to all who are shown the door - DO NOT reemploy with a major oil company. Small to medium small companies will offer more opportunity and career advancement (as well as options and bonuses).
