Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Currently hiring, but layoffs are coming??

Here is what I am not clear on, why are we hiring if there are layoffs coming?

It doesn't make sense.

We are currently hiring for academics and finance.

Why would the company be hiring just to lay people off.

Not only that, the work load right now is too much.

No one is able to keep up with their work load.

Everyone is behind.

If they cut more people, the people remaining will be buried in work.

Well, I open a forma complaint with the EEOC for targeting, discrimination and retaliation (case is still under investigation) and was fired a few weeks after.

@109--I didn't say "all"; I said 99%, dumbo. Read more.

@402 - I wouldn't say ALL are dumbass. It's mainly those attending for the first time ever or those with signs of attending multiple places elsewhere and then coming in with a bad history. Those are the students who need a lot more counseling to determine their true intentions. I see reps in frustration all the time when talking to some of thes lower-class idiots who come in saying, "I just want to start anything." It's basically the same sack of shits living off tax money that our government allows them to. We all voted to support them though so it's our own damn fault. Get out there and vote next time. Spend time petitioning better screening on financial welfare support. I can understand someone with a legit disability but even they have the ability to do for themselves. Look at Hawking, Stevie wonder, and the many others who do far better than the average non-handicapped person. F your lazy ass fs!

99% of all UOP students are f***ing retards, dumbasses who would never have success in a traditional higher-education environment.

Reminder, the job postings were internal only. This tells me business analytics are trying to align reps to student load. I suspect they will try and realign to some degree as they continue to analyze business need before layoffs happen.

@029 - at this point it's all speculation. I think we all know and understand that there are still several departments who have yet not been aligned with its 5 year plan. Campuses that have been talked about for a whole know who are being phased out are going to come to an end which means that ALL remaining employees will be given opportunities to relocate or take a severance. Some campuses that still house ER's, AC's and FA's will also be replaced by Phoenix based reps. Students will have a lot more self-serve options to add or delete courses from schedules and automated services which means reps would have less hand-holding support as they will be replaced by robots. All of this makes business sense with the exception of the self-serve. We all know that many of UOP's newcomers such as AA or Lower-level CERT students do not have the capabilities to think for themselves. Automated systems will only frustrate them and cause them to drop.

@730 Good points, but they did not layoff those without a degree. At least not in all sections. There are still plenty of people around who don't have a bachelors degree, somehow.

@static - May I remind you that in the last 900+ employee layoff, nearly all new hires (1yr or less) were let go along with those without a degree and a random selection of tenured and high performers as well. Won't make sense for them to have let go over 100 new hires with base salaries, then let go of veterans to hire new people all over again. Why wouldn't they have just kept those other new hires as they already had spent tons of money training them.

Simple -- business plan calls for higher paid, tenured employees to be laid off. New hires (bodies) come in to replace them at a much lower salary. Cost reduction, while creating the illusion that the company is healthy/growing. Oldest PR trick in the book!

Simple -- companies layoff higher paid, tenured workers, then bring in new hires (bodies) for much less money.

@197. So you're saying that 50% of the others should get fired except you and those of your obvious excellence. Tell me something? Upon your "transfer to another department" did your former co-workers feel it necessary to beat you to a pulp causing the brain damage you so articulately demonstrate?

I was an AC up until just recently when I transferred to another department. I was not overwhelmed one bit. All of my work was completed by 10 or 11 each day. Most of the other ACs and FAs around me were the same. The average student load is less than 250 active students per counselor. In years past the teams were much larger so I don't see how people are so overwhelmed with work. Most just try to appear busy. I think the teams could be cut by 50% and be just fine.

@Oracle

You raise some valid points.

Everyone I talk to in academics and finance all say the same thing, they are overworked and under appreciated.

Everyone is getting burnt out and run down.

The call volume is too high, too many cases to work and too many emails to respond to.

Management doesn't seem to care that everyone is drowning.

All management seems to care about is people in class and balances being resolved.

They don't seem to care about how miserable their employees are.

@Trolls = save your time and don't respond. I know, if we are that miserable find another job.

172110==They recently emailed all staff that they are hiring academic and finance in hopes of transitioning enrollment (still the largest group) and other support services to decrease the layoff numbers. Regardless of what you think your job load is the board's need for profits is greater and all staff will get reduced. It might not make sense to you but that doesn't matter. Posting for jobs is usually a desperate plea to be perceived as a healthy company. The company is desperate.
