Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

What do you expect....

Why is everyone so surprised? I worked for this company for two years in the Chicago land stores. There was a consistent pattern of mentally unstable, drug using losers running the departments and the stores who self proclaim that based on their experience would never have a management title or make the kind of money they make working at any other company. These are not people who know how to navigate through a storm all they knew is how steer a ship through calm waters. I worked at a store that was equivalent to a high school cafeteria what with all the drama and spouse infidelity within the store along with a management team that consisted of a stoner who never came out of the office and a manager who spent the day on Facebook and stirring up trouble amongst team members. Sad for the people who truly worked thinking they could move ahead. Never was going to happen when you leave your stores in the hands of bums.

A friend of mine who manages a small restaurant said, "You would think they would have their technology and efficiency figured out PRIOR to going on a huge expansion binge. Why do they have all these different methods of doing the same thing? And to think they aren't testing people for drugs, even if you didn't mind cannabis you certainly don't want co-workers and bosses who are on opiates or LSD. That's insane." Even a mom-and-pop manager understands these things. The 4-letter system that starts with "I" -- you know the one -- that is worthless. Can y'all believe it still is used every single day and it's not even one unified system. Wooohooo, let's go back to Windows 3.1 and when we had one store that ran it, Harry's Farmers Market. Even small produce stands and retailers use modern database programs.

the seafood tl in my store sends sexual texts to lots of girls and even hooks up with some of them even though he is married to a woman who is an astl in the same region. They have two kids. He's a sick pervert and is also going for astl. This is who I am supposed to respect as my guidance?!

I'm in Chicago too, and my boss is a drug dealer. Everyone in the store knows it.

I agree with this. Whole foods managed to become successful based on capitalizing on a niche market that is no longer a niche market. They didn't have to be choosy about who they hired to "lead" because they didn't have to trouble shoot and solve problems. The company holds onto management who scare off people who do have experience and expertise by creating a culture that makes it unbearable to go to work everyday. The management in the stores is equivalent to trained monkeys who only know how to read computer generated reports and adjust things in the departments to make sure those reports look better rather than solve the actual problems or Truly drive sales. Also they put people in positions out of desperation to have a warm body even though they can't do the job. I worked with a cake decorator who refused to decorate cakes literally told me once "I'm not an artist". when I questioned this I was told I was making trouble. Sadly the people who created this mess deserve to lose their jobs, it is sad for those who are affected by the actions of people at the top who don't know what they are doing.

All true, of course. But I think we can also ask "What did you expect?" of the next level up. Corporate chose to HIRE these fools. No drug testing? they had to know what they were getting.losers will always be losers; that never changes, but a corporate culture that thinks this is somehow beneficial worries me much more. Corporate can also be thanked for trying to get by on technology that is 25 yrs behind the competition. Now we see the results.
