Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

ROM 2 week completed. Sure has been quiet.

The ROM 2 selection process took place this past week. Trying to cram 600 facilities engineers into 350 jobs, most of those roles having incumbents camped out on the desks. We were given some (likely false) hope that there might be calls or updates about the roles we were being selected for, but alas - none of the people I know have been contacted at all. This just tells us that the roles were filled, without further outside influence or questions to candidates. You also have to wonder if several of those 350 postings were also cancelled, as they were based on $60/bbl oil. There could be far less roles in reality.

Next week should be interesting, as we learn about the outcome of this selection process. I've already begun planning what I'll do with my time off, just in case.

That wasn't Slim Pickens! That was Kennau Reaves (Johnny Utah) to Patrick Swayze (Bodi) in Point Break at the end of the show when Bodi went to tackle the 100 year storm waves in Australia or go back to prison with JU. Great movie!

171558 is spot on. PRC have no accountability, they approve of contractors using their influence for high praise by the contractor companies, tickets to sports, free 5-star restaurant treatment. Nothing will change. Chevron management is oblivious.

Houston ROM 2announcements were to be today Monday Oct 5, but didn't happen? "Unofficial" Schedule slip now to the end of the week with no reasons or definitive date given. Sound familiar?

Anonymous171652- Good points. It takes more than just a degree to do well in the long haul. And having a "real degree" that you think is better than everyone else's degree, guarantees you nothing. I have seen too many examples of this.

Thanks, Anonymous171652. I agree. Nobody should take us Blue Collar and office techs for granted. Without us, Chevron will not get half the work done around here.

Hey, I have only an Associates Degree from a State University and have been here for 26 years, spinning circles around many BA types. Don't think for a second a college degree guarantees anything or defines a person's value. Sure, an Engineering degree is important in the field, but if your work is of a technical nature in the office environment, it's the person, not the degree that counts. I have caught on fast and am a "Johnny-on-the-spot" for most people... so I'm told by many, including my boss and the department manager. Sorry for being braggadocious, but just to backup myself. There's many others like me at Chevron (in the office and in the field).

Anonymous171512- You want him to put in time and effort to get a so called "real degree" just so that he can end up on the chopping block?

Yeah agree with Anon 486, but maybe too many processes have made the company require more people to meet the process needs. I recall an earlier post about the Ant and the Lion" and it seems to ring true today. Company needs to define what is important and define who and what is needed to meet the end (profits).

Yeah his comment could use some clarifying remarks... but anyway look at PRC. That's the problem

Anonymous171486, your words are those if an insensitive, ignorant pinhead. Go back to your low-level admin position and maybe consider going back to school and getting a real degree with a more favorable career path.

We have 600 Facility engineers and we have MCP dysfunction? Sorry but it does sound like too many. I wonder if the same applies to other functional groups?
