Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Please answer my query...this is very surprising...got email on COP e-mail

I got an email today for a recruitment company on my Conocophillips email. They said they have this job that matches my profile. I'm surprised big big time because I have never ever used Conoco email on my resume or I'm not even on LinkedIn..

How is this possible? My best guess is that as part of layoffs Conoco provides help with job placement so may be our HR Dept released the layoff employees data a but early....makes sense?

Let's see, your COP email is your name, followed by ConocoPhillips.com. How on earth could someone get your email!?! But, by all means, lets go the route of the conspiracy!!!

Search was disabled on resources. The quickest method to find confidential files is to search for "human resources confidential".

Before I got let go I downloaded a United Way file with a complete email and job description list from a public drive available to all. Some older training class files still on the public drives even have complete SS numbers. With all those files available I don't doubt an ex employee may be using that info in her new job. Check it out for yourself while you are waiting for the layoff call next week.

The simple answer is they saw you on LinkedIn and typed firstname.lastname@conocophillips.com.

Once you understand how addresses are styled at a firm it's not hard to guess addresses. Seems pretty easy to me. I've done this dozens of times to reach people whose address I don't know.

The last supervisor at ConoocPhillips could not stand the sight of me (amazing how I was laid off...); but he would forward my personal information to recruiters in an attempt to get me to go away on my own. So perhaps you are not to be one with the layoffs. And every employee in the company has a list of every employee in the company via the email system. If you care forward the email to the help desk and the Exchange team can block for the entire company, assuming the help desk and the Exchange team exists after next week.

Probably the other way around: a gung-ho recruitment company got hold of a list of ALL employees and clumsily sent everyone same message, a sophisiticated phishing exercise and very inconsiderate. Ignore it.
