Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

New theory about the roll out of these lay offs.... They don't want us to reapply.

So I have been thinking about this for awhile now and wondering how could WFM be so out of touch with their own culture? Couldn't they see this hunger games style job cutting would lead to most people taking the severance and running? Then it hit me, YES. They knew exactly how we would respond, with disgust and too much pride in what we do and get the f*** out. Store leaders are shocked as to how many people they are actually losing and wondering how they will be able to pick up the pieces. But they were not consulted. This is the beginning of a tidal shift in the way WFM does and runs its biz. Automation and efficiency. The way they are executing it is the only way they could mitigate it from a PR perspective. 1500 jobs my ass. But now they can say, "well we offered them their jobs but they just did not take them. So we eliminated their position," evil genius shit.... Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit.

How are TL's getting packages?? In what region is this happening? Is this due to performance/attendance issues or just cuts. I fee like I am going to end up quitting and getting squat when TM's on final got better options...

The current crop of so-called executive leaders and their regional do-nothings don't know how to operate efficiently. That's why we're in this situation. BTW, Publix doesn't need or want this mess. I predict it will go private but whoever does due diligence will probably barf when they see what they have to deal with to clean out the barn.

its called Problem , Reaction , Solution. they create the problem, pursue the victims to react a certain way, and then take their solution (severance package, etc). they didn't want any of the seasoned tm there anymore because they were making lots of dollars. they wanted to weed those out an start a new with lower paying newbies in every position. I.e a buyer that is making 19.50 is a target to get let go or encourage to take the package as oppose to a buyer making 14 dollars an hour. so if you survived this assault and your about to be cap in your position you will be a target to be either promoted or let go.

Attrition, or by attrition, as the letter and so many interviews have stated. That word means just that, not filling the spaces left by those who take severance, therefore it does not count in the layoff number. Not understanding how words work and what they mean is a huge reason we are in this mess.

Yes, we were offered other jobs -- at a 40% pay cut.

Wine specialist left with a little under 20000k plus his 8 weeks pay, PTO etc. Great guy but who should find work with a vendor easily. He said he's going to travel though as he worked just to work and didn't really need to

I agree. I think the plan was to shed as many as possible. And when it didn't happen they upped the service hour payout to make it more enticing.

Yup. Roughly 5 years here. With pay rate it was 12,000ish before taxes. For me, it was worth it. anything less and id have probably felt more panicked. They didnt expect me to leave tho, but it was just a smart move in my particular circumstance. Im over the initial shock. I'm not upset in the shift of the business, just the manner in which it was executed, the disrespect for the people who built and maintained it and the deeprooted corruption on all levels. Keep in mind a corporation is only human in legal speak, so you cant expect them to treat you like anything more than an asset and a dollar sign, regardless of values or how they protrayed themselves.

yeah some of those severance packages ive heard are quite large..ive heard astl's getting +35k...i know a dude who has worked marketing for like 5 years and they were gonna give him 12k but he wants to see if any full time positions open up,which is doubtful considering how they seem to have a moratorium on full time employment-they dont want to pay health care and dont care about your health

You are 100% correct. My TL is leaving with close to $30K in severance. Why wouldn't he take it? Mark my words, they are selling the company. The fewer highly paid people, the easier it is for the new parent company to bring in their own people at conventional grocery pay. Starting pay for team members will stay the same, but I bet the caps are much lower. Gain sharing will disappear because prospective buyers won't want to pay it. What they are doing is text book buyout preparation.
