OKLAHOMA CITY,Okla. - More than 500 Oklahomans are without jobs tonight after Chesapeake Energy cut 19 percent of their metro workforce.
In a time of great darkness for so many people, we've found the Oklahoma standard shinning bright.
Chesapeake is one of the largest employers in the city.
It's either you, a friend or a loved one who has been affected by one of the most recent job cuts.
But, as many of you know, when Oklahomans go through tough times, others step up to show what Oklahoma strong means.
"I am the owner of Results Fitness and Nutrition Center," Brian Attebery said.
The Oklahoma business owner found out about Chesapeake layoffs through social media.
"I am the owner and creator of Balance.Yoga.Barre," Ashly Bates said.
She had a friend asking for a job.
"She texted me today and has been affected by it and asked if we had any positions available for her," Bates said.
Local business owners were ready to offer a helping hand.
"I just thought a lot of times people will cut things like that when they have financial issues, and I just thought this is not a time they should cut it," Attebery said.
Results Fitness is offering free memberships for the rest of the year to those laid off.
"Whenever we work out, we release anxiety," Attebery said.
Balance.Yoga.Barre is offering a month of free unlimited classes to their studios.
"Whether it's giving class, or creating environment to relieve some of the stress for these people that have been affected or their families is the least we can do at Balance.Y.oga.Barre," Bates said.
Their posts praised their Oklahoma standard. On Attebery's Facebook, people are saying, "So generous" and "I know how tough it is. I lost mine in oil and gas a months ago."
