Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

A Cynical Move

Whole Foods spends too much money on marketing, store construction and a decentralized, ridiculous regional system where each region has its own marketing and each store has its own marketing and artist, etc, where wheels are constantly reinvented and egos clash, and a distribution system that doesn't get proper economies of scale. That's why, unlike EVERY other major grocer, they've never even been able to have an effective national loyalty card program. If they could pool resources and get some economies of scale they wouldn't need to sell at such high price to make a profit. John Mackey is such a business idiot that he once told my regional president "Why would I want to sell more product for less each." Yes, that's how uneducated he was then. My guess is the layoffs are a publicity stunt both to get stocks moving again and to shame customers into believing that their demands for cheaper prices are causing layoffs. Bullshit. Who do they think are going to do the extra work created by these layoffs? The leftovers are who, and both morale and customer service are going to suffer. You don't hire and fire people because of prices, you do so to meet the needs of the company and customers. Maybe John and Walter should reread their own core values statement.

I actually do think store marketers, store artists and buyers should have gone a long time ago. But the responsibility for this mess goes to the top, and none of them will pay a price. And BTW anybody who accepts a lower PT position is screwing themselves out of unemployment payments, so do that math before you pursue that route.

This dude thinks he's smart by throwing around business 101 jargon. Hey dipshit, whole foods does have economies of scale on everything except local products you moron. That means most items in grocery and also tons of produce. Also, Whole Foods has underspent on marketing since it's inception, why do you think customers perceive Kroger as the king of local? It's because they spend way more on marketing to tell people all about local. Next time you choose to type, make sure you have some facts!

So...if too much money is spent on marketing, shouldn't you be stoked on the marketing team cuts? The derp is strong here.
