Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Wake up people

APC has been letting people go "as in terminating" for some/any BS reason or forcing retirement. This way they don't have to pay layoff packages and still look as if they are not laying people off. This has been going on for 6 - 7 months now. I am one of those casualties and I know of other ex-employees. They are looking for any excuse to let people go so watch your backs. What was once a great company to work for has now become just another so-so company.

January 2016 will start the year with an announcement from Houston. Wattenburg will be sold at a fraction of its 2014 'value'. Denver office will close. On a happier note, the housing market in denver is strong.

I'm still wondering why when they take my oil and gas out of the grown at my leases, why did they think they needed a gym, cafeteria, Doctor, etc. at their offices????

Anadarko is the most wasteful company I have ever worked for. Management sucks and you wonder how we make a profit with some of these figure heads we have in the director positions!!!!

Yep, same thing happened to me. Terminated for something that wasn't even my fault and thrown out with no severance, no partial AIP, nothing......They even charged me back for vacation they claim that I took in advance (even though I had 40 hours remaining) I guess a decade of service didn't mean anything!

Agree. Seriously 4 or 5 planes? Get to the original point = WASTEFUL spending by the APC executive committee.

Ohhhhh what a huge error. 4 planes and not 5. Congrats there bucko! Hope you're working in our internal audit! LOL. So - only $100 million in planes and not $125 million! The planes are owned by APC. I know for fact the last custom G5 was purchased a few years ago with a price of over $24 million. Classic example of executive corporate waste and greed. Waste of shareholder money - along with many other things at APC.

To the person who called me a pompass ass, you are still opening your mouth and have no clue what your talking about. For your information, aviation has 4 jets not at least 5.

You do realize Anadarko doesn't own the jets, right? The smartest way to save money is through operational efficiencies and innovation. G&A cuts only take you so far.

So if you want to call people out - then do enlighten us with the "facts" on the jets you pompous ass. More than likely there's more than 5 planes. All with multimillion dollar price tags - multiple pilots to fly each - and a recently remodeled private hanger.... Figure up that G/A hit if you're so close to the detail!

If you want to talk about the corporate jets you might want to get all your information correct first!

It's all about talent retention. In the good times when ungodly amounts of profits are to be made, you want your roster stacked with competent rock stars. I'd wager that on average, an Anadarko employee is worth 2 anywhere else. On average.

This needs sent to senior management. If they aren't planning to restructure our company to ride this downturn like the other companies are.... It tells me one thing only. They plan to SELL APC as soon as they can get to a price they need and then let the buyer layoff all the workers. The excess at APC is over and above any other company in our peers. Our GA is out of control!! The hanger and the 5 G5 jets. The money spent to get our CEO and CFO to their homes - THEY DONT EVEN ACTUALLY LIVE IN TEXAS! The 2 PRIVATE hunting lodges just for the execs. The numerous international flights by all the various departments that are nothing but bojangle trips at this point. Still sending expats - crazy! Ridiculous spending of shareholders money!!!!! The Denver downtown office needs to be closed! We are a fat cow headed to slaughter if something isn't done soon!!

You are right on target. I would rather cut some perks and expenses, and keep my job. One cafeteria, one gym, no doctor, etc. Many other places live without the perks and expenses just fine. Sure people will have to use more PTO to do doctor's appointments and all, but that is what PTO is for. If we have to have all these perks to get people to come to work for us then we are doing something wrong. Also, we don't need Zach Brown Band at Christmas. Just hire a DJ and have a get together, or better yet just let departments do their own party. I think we are blessed to have all these things, but they are not needed to do a good job. We as employees need to stop thinking we deserve all these perks as well. The job, paycheck, insurance, retirement should be plenty to motivate one to give their best.

What I don't understand is, why do we even have a Denver office? That is a HUGE expense, what we need to do is close that office and bring all the employees to Houston. Some departments are split 80/20 (The Woodlands/Denver), cut redundancies and bring them all under the same campus. "Oh, but we have a lot of great assets in Wattenburg", ok...the field offices are out there for a reason. No reason to have a second HQ in Denver. Oh, but we have no room in The Woodlands...really? Some floors in Hackett tower have plenty of office space. Lets face it, even some floors can be converted into an "open concept", to eliminate expenses. Not everyone needs an office. As a younger professional, I would love the open floor concept. Just plug into a desk, and collaborate with my coworkers. Not having to go around into peoples stuffy offices. It's 2015 and sometimes this place is run like we are still in the 90's.

Saving a few dollars and cents on office supplies and "black vs color" ink, is not going to do much to "save a barrel"...cutting huge corporate expenses like 2 HQ's, executive perks like the jet, hunting grounds, golf memberships, etc will really add back to the bottom line. I love our company culture and all that we stand for, but some changes have to be made, its unfortunate that $45 oil might be the norm for a while.
