Severance Questions NorCal

just want to be clear on this before I turn it in.. It seems that they want me to turn the paper work in today and ASAP.

The tax on the severance is 40 percent and I am able to go on unemployment, correct? Does the money come to me all at once, or in payments?

You cannot claim exempt on severance pay

Lump sum. Taxed as bonus pay (so 40% taxes come out). Unemployment eligibility/decisions vary state to state, but WFM will not contest.

I believe it's a lump sum. I turned mine in today but before I did I went exempt on my tax forms so I won't get taxed. Please note this IS risky, I usually get a few grand back in taxes at the end of the year so I think I can afford to go exempt on this large sum. If you are not in a similar boat you may owe money at the end of the year by going exempt.
