Where is your confusion coming from? I've worked for WFM for 14 years. At some point, after years and years of hearing that it's a "good company to work for," there's a small part of me that would like to believe it's true. Isn't that a logical response? Isn't it reasonable to assume that the happiness of employees is important to the corporation since it's a core value? I think that's a pretty reasonable assumption to make. Yet, when I wake up one morning to texts bombarding my phone from friends being laid of all over the country, it suddenly becomes hard to believe that this is a good company to work for or that they care about our happiness. It's fine to lay people off, but there is a way to lay people off with integrity. I have yet to see any integrity in this process. This is just cold hard capitalism; there's nothing conscious about it.

This corporation hasn't cared about employees for years.
Check your states laws, talk to a lawyer. If you're pregnant there are laws protecting you
Tell them you are seeking other jobs at WFM, work thru Thursday, then bolt. You'll be covered till the end of Oct.
I am having surgery next week. They are forcing me to choose my severance option before the end of Sept so I lose my insurance or pay COBRA. I already partially paid for the surgury through the insurance, so COBRA here I come :( I told them they will have a special place in hell for doing this to people, especially people like me who will need to heal and pregnant that will have an issue finding a job for a while. F'ing SOBs.
