Cisco Needs a Balanced Workforce

Stumbled upon this site searching for a random technical term, weird... Anyhow, overtime Cisco turned out to be 80% Indian, there are both good and bad sides to it. I am a WASP, born and raised in Santa Clara, it's difficult to walk into a 20 people meeting and be the only non Indian person. I was raised to respect all and not discriminate in any respect, I would only look for merit and that was influencing all my decisions, including hiring. Many Indian folks still need to grow and accept merit as the only criteria when decision making, it's a part of becoming American, and it's a process. Some folks born and raised here have the same issue. Keep in mind that I used words "many" and "some" here, it's not a clear cut situation, but the issue is real and needs to be dealt with. Ultimately, it'll harm Cisco the most as all the talent that would feel ethnically or racially 'overwhelmed' will chose to see a more diverse work environment.

@voYz - the OP was quoting his own experience, how would she/he back that up with a reference?

There is no point in saying about diversity. Organisation requires the talented people, It is taking it. But, if one feels that the maximum is from one region It will lead to negative impact on themselves. The organisation ultimately needs the profit, which it is getting. By removing the people from one region thinking that it needs diversity doesn't make any sense for them and will loose a lot because the people who lost the job will shine in another company.

Yes, as a Indian working at Cisco, I fully empathy with your feelings. We are trying to bring big chance in our team composition, but it is not easy as it sounds.

If you going to quote numbers and have any chance of someone believing you, then you need to have a source referenced. Otherwise its just a number off the top of your head.
