Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

new store

out here in a $179/night hotel room for 2 weeks opening a new store while people are losing their jobs? slow your roll. company clearly doesn't care about their employees any more than a conventional grocery store.

I opened downtown Miami and I stayed in a skyrise hotel for a week. There was a lot of money spent on that and my food!

I understand you have to house for store openings. I am saying that some people that travel out to the openings are not needed- they are just socializing and hanging out. To me that's a waste. And this is coming from someone who works at regional and sees it first hand

Used to travel a lot, not for WFM where I work now. Anyhow, after a year or two, you just get sick and want to quit. The beds are sucky regardless of hotel class and your home bed will always be much better. There is always something that drives you bananas on the trip, there would be an outdoor AC next to your window, a noisy student party across the hall, smells or all kinds, dirt, etc. The plains are late, you miss your kids games, graduations, delays, cancellations, unpredictable schedule, anxious spouse waiting and texting you all the time. Anyhow, you get the point. After a few years you want to quit, but you’ve gotten good in what you do and they want to keep you as you can do double work if compared with someone who is just starting, you know the drill, you stopped complaining long time ago. Anyhow, if you were to run the ops here, would you really want me to stay in a $99 Motel 6 and put me on a Greyhound? I am not justifying waste, that happens, I merely would like to add a few additional points to consider as you form your opinion about things like this.

I am in Santa Monica, when they visit here the hotel bill is more like $450/night - the fact is, hotels are expensive here, I dont think you can find lodging much lower than that here. Just saying, I get the point though

Store openings always require more people for a short while to help get it set up and running, not sure how else you're supposed to house extra people except in hotels. More stores adds revenue, which allows for more income.

There's a lot to disagree with, and waste to eliminate, but this seems silly.

It's insane how much they waste on store opening travel and hotels. a lot of these team members don't really contribute to the opening of the store effectively, they just wander around looking at the "innovations" and taste testing food and just hanging out. The MA is the worst with this

I hope you have tickets home already because all travel is frozen except for RVP's from what i hear.

I traveled for a month with whole foods. They spent an insane amount of money on my rental and hotel when I wanted my own car and was willing to drive home each night. Only an hour away lol. Plus the mandatory vendor fair crap and they are extremely wasteful with their supply budget
