Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Any guesses on upcoming layoff count?

Sounds like it could range from 400-2,500 people. Who thinks it will be larger than the 2013 layoff?

Don't forgot all of Doug's layoffs in October of 2013.

Following dozens of previous layoffs in past weeks, today 800 workers at the company got the axe.

In a letter to remaining employees, CEO Doug Lawler said that “the initial transformation work is finished.”

The layoffs impacted at least 640 people at Chesapeake’s Oklahoma City headquarters.

This is sad for those involved, of course, but the company continues to employ 11,000 nationwide, including 3,500 in Oklahoma City.

In an interview with the Oklahoman, Lawler said, “Over the past several months, we’ve been going through a transformation process that has included evaluating all aspects of our business. That transformational process has concluded.”

Chesapeake said it will incur about $70 million of one-time charges in the third and fourth quarters related to its layoffs of about 900 employees. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Chesapeake said it cut about 900 employees as part of a company-wide restructuring to reduce costs.

We are overstaffed. I think the number is around 500. Many that aren't busy know that they are on the chopping block.

2500 people?? How many work for us anyway? 5000? (Not including contractors)

Blah. Thanks for the history lesson. Any reductions now would be purely economy driven and CHK's related legacy debt - nothing else. Poor performers get exited every week.

The company hired back near the equivalent of the number laid off in the following 18 months. I believe there will be more let go this time around
