Don't sit around and wait for HP to decide your future. Start looking for a new job now. Take control. If you're going to leave, do it on your own terms, not HP's. Check for jobs on LinkedIn. Get in touch with former HPers who are already working at other companies. I started looking for a new job in March, got several offers within a couple of months, and was gone by May. I'm still in technology, but at a company that is thriving. You can do it. Just get out there now!

Unless you've foolishly been living paycheck to paycheck while at HP (if so then wtf is wrong with you?!), then the whole "I got kids and house payments" excuses are incredibly flimsy. You shouldve put some money aside for emergencies like this instead of putting your head in the sand by paying a house mortgage that's 70% your income and driving your kids to an expensive school in your Mercedes.
If you have been living paycheck to paycheck because hp hasn't paid you a good salary then I suppose you should be delighted to leave as you'll probably find a better paying job.
Anonymous162189. no, it's not that easy to find another job if you just sit there and do nothing. At least update your LinkedIn profiles so recruiters can find you. And let your network know you're open to new opportunities. The sooner you start looking, the sooner you'll find something. Or you can wait and let HP make the decision for you. And then if you're laid off, you may have to give up your house, relocate and pull your kids out of that school whether you want to or not.
It's gets much easier when they force you out, but better to find something else while still receiving a salary.
This seems to be a common thread here - all people are saying 'get out' - but it's not that easy to get out and find another job. People have houses and many jobs require relocation, kids are in school etc. I'll just wait and see what happens, I hope I keep my job as I like my manager and my team is cool. The client is difficult by we manage to survive.
