Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Mattel needs more diversity at the top, or its toys will continue to be stuck in the past!

Mattel is dominated by a lot of old white men in suits...and now they have a handful of old white women.

Mattel's new C suite leadership's lack of diversity is a replica of the former and a recipe for more failures. Mr. Sinclair....where are the diverse views, perspectives, culture in this new leadership?? How many of my African American brothers and sisters in executive leadership? Zero Vice Presidents on staff and zero in the new C suite leadership. Plenty in the rank and file...below director. What about my U.S. born Latino brothers and sisters? None that I can see at VP and above. The good news is that my LGBT family is well represented. SMGDH....more of same sh*t, different day.

LOL. harsh but so true. i don't think boys would rather have a die-cast honda odyssey over a Lamborghini because they feel that all cars have to be represented. Who wants to have a fat role model anyway?

No little girl dreams of being a black or Hispanic. They don't fantasize about being fat. And no normal kid could even imagine being a lesbo or tranny. So let's keep Barbie blonde and pretty and give little girls something to dream about and strive for. Otherwise, we'll raise a generating who thinks being a fat black lesbian who whines about entitlements is "normal".

No one is race baiting Anonymous169519...just stating the facts. No one (but you one) can argue that while we're trying to change the company culture for the better, its probably a good idea to get some diversity of thought, culture, experiences, perspectives, etc. in leadership. Diversity of thought—the idea of more-than-one-way— is key to understanding the potential of diversity and inclusion as an organizational resource. Greater diversity means greater variation in perspectives and approaches- and potentially new and innovative products. Under AK's watch, the potential of this resource was mismanaged and overlooked.

I and I'm sure our investors would welcome greater diversity in Mattel's leadership -- its a signal that company is moving into the 21st century. Let's start with NOT bringing in people from the same old universities from the same old Manhattan Beach and Palos Verdes neighborhoods and others west of the 405. Diversity in this sense may not improve the stock overnight, but it certainly can't hurt it either.

AK also had the SVP of diversity reporting to him - it's where that role normally reports in a company. This won't change anything, but again, it's lack of good leadership, not diversity that is Mattel's issue. Get rid of poor performing VPs regardless of race, sexual orientation, etc. Real Jill is trying to race bait and it's not working.

New HR exec has diversity and inclusion reporting directly to him. You may be on to something The Real Jill...I guess we'll see.

I can think of two LGBT VPs on Girls/Barbie Design that are most likely being protected; probably out of fear of PR. Given performance it shouldn't be an issue. If you were head of design on a brand for three years as sales fell, shouldn't you be fired?

Lots of whites and Asians, few African Americans (none at VP or above) but lots of LGBT. Being more diverse isn't going to solve Mattels problems. Getting rid of people that aren't leaders even if they are lgbt is what's needed. if designers can't lead a brand, get rid of them regardless of their gender, race or sexual orientation.

Well put anger Johnny. We know it's you for your frequent and eloquent use of the phrase "bag o douche". Indeed we'll see you on the next topic with your same repeated opinions.

My guess who be the tribe wears those small round little caps? But again, pls. remember that this space is not about the race, it's about the place......Unequal? yes, does it matter? Not sure. Mismanagement, stupidity, greed, & arogance isn't part of a race & that is what we discuss on this blog. Jobs Matter..............

There is one tribe that is consistently overrepresented in the upper reaches of the tower (and across the upper management throughout the toy biz). Why do you think that is?

Hey RealJill - racebaiting angry mattelites is an uncool way to end the week. Let's hate the place not the race.

Dear anon 161778 - we in upper management think the snow day is still a great idea. In fact to celebrate diversity we are going to be trucking in (get ready for it) : rainbow snow!!! It will be like playing in the most fabulous multi colored snow cone ever! It's gonna be a great holiday season! (for us)

They used to have a Latina in the Tower & she had a really nice corner office until they whacked her at the last large layoff. Now there's none. Zero. Oh yeah, plenty of the LGBT represented here big time. You are correct, same old Good Ole Boys Club, different day. It will be interesting if they still do the Christmas Day of Play but trucking in the real snow to the Tower lawn has been cost reduced out. Snow sold separately, snow not included......I think now most of us will be forced to go to a low income elementary school again & pretend like we're having fun. It's kinda you go or else, especially if you work on the socalled Engineering side but no more real Engineering gets done here anymore. March or die or die, red shirts for everybody. Yikes, I'm hoping that gets cost reduced out as well.

Well I'm not a white old man but I'm not sure your race qualifies as a guarantee to a better product. I'd prefer to color blindly judge based on performance.

Dumbass works on any color.
