2016 COBRA Guidebook - ConocoPhillips

http://hrcpdocctr.conocophillips.com/Documents/2016_Annual_Enrollment/COBRA_Guidebook.pdf -- Excellent resource to evaluate the options associated with insurance coverage. The 2016 version includes the costs associated with the coverage for reference. As an example, the network costs associated with an individual increased 10-15% 2015 to 2016. Important dates associated with open enrollment for healthcare dot gov -- November 1, 2015: Open Enrollment starts — first day you can enroll in a 2016 Marketplace plan - January 1, 2016: First date 2016 coverage can start - January 31, 2016: 2016 Open Enrollment ends -- And to qualify for the subsidy income must be below ~ $45,000. Do your homework! For 2015 income above $45,000 no subsidy and COBRA is a good option; but if you are still unemployed January 1 (and so income below $45,000) do explore healthcare dot gov. Unfortunately Oklahoma and Texas are "Your state has not decided to expand Medicaid, but you or some members of your family may still be eligible" states so estimating income at zero for 2016 is not the better option. Best guess, estimate income at $20,000 for 2016 and drop the coverage at the time you have a new job. November 1 is just around the corner and I am not interested in continuing COBRA due to the expense so feedback is helpful. I do hope to have a new job prior to November 1 but must be prepared regardless.
