HR asks the SVP’s and VP’s who they think should be fired to reach the xx% reductiib. HR never thinks outside the box to fire the SVP’s and VP’s. So it is rare that VP’s and SVP’s ever get cut.

200 VP’s and how many SVP’s? Why are layoffs not started there?
They let go service departments because it's harder to charge them to a specific sinking budget. Oh, Asia can take care of those jobs for you...(not) While there are many hard working people in Asia, most of the good ones have also left Mattel. Right now this company is designing and producing crap. Take a look at the Target Aisle. Where two years ago Monster High had nearly an entire side of an aisle, much of that has been lost. Oh and I see Bratz is back. Stop cost reducing the magic out of toys, and run the ship by incompetent management, poor judgement, and marketing. Go back to designing good toys, and hire competent marketing people to Market the product. Get in touch with the customer and stop accepting junk. Here is the good news. Those talented people being let go will find better jobs. When VP's and SVP's start losing their parking spots, they may not have as good of luck.
In regards to the last reply, they're trying something new for this round of layoffs. They've started with the "service departments", and (based on rumors) will continue with design and marketing. I've heard the term "rolling layoffs" being tossed around. Depending on who you talk to, this rolling layoff is supposed to roll into October. Some say it could end as early as next week when design, marketing, and management get their turn. I highly doubt that marketing and management will get touched since the trend is to trim the creative talent. If money/budget is the problem and salary needs to be cut...the obvious choice to rid this company of some of the 200 VP's. Yes, there are 200 VP's at Mattel. You want more salary? An entry level designer makes about 40-50K...entry level marketing makes about 80-90K.
In ES, it seems that we lost a lot of good people from so called (and often derogatorily called) "service departments" such as 3D development, soft goods, sculpting, electronics etc. but no product designers were laid off. Is that true?
Helenek is still around because he's a talentless, vindictive POS, yes man.....Fits right in. He should have been fired long ago but he's protected by Medusa, she loves him to do her bidding. He's one of the main reasons Barbie's in the cesspool, he just can't make up his girl mind. WHATEVER........

She is the worse pos in that office. she thinks she looks good "at the end of the day". what a joke. she has talked about everyone from sea to shining sea. watch out y'all. she should have been gone a long time ago. if she doesn't like you, you're history. watch out jean mc. she's got you in her evil, self serving, sights
Downward spiral continues this week
I always wondered if she got her name because her visits meant death to people's careers or that she just looked like death. Guess it's a toss up depending on how you look at it.
Rumor has it the EA HR cackling grim reaper is on her way to NYC
They better ax some of the useless marketing people who got the company into this mess in the first place.
The people they lay off were all executing off indecisive moves and a lack of focus and investment in key places.
The leadership keeps thinking they can have twice the productivity while cutting their work force.
The math doesn't add up.
Their answer: give moa more. But they're not increasing their budget over there either. So what's the logical choice for moa: more shortcuts. Product suffers.
You can't keep cutting off your own limbs and expect to win at a juggling contest.
FACE PALM NOW.
break up the current hierarchy.
Remove the centralized bureaucracy that paralyzes everyone.
Eliminate brands that will realistically never come back. I mean why are we still trying to fix Polly and little mommy? Cut the losses and see the money pit for what it is.
Reinvest the people and the money. Recognize that toy box was a failure. You can't put a dress on the same horse and expect it to behave differently. It's still under the same resource restrictions, stupid sales people and NAD. nuff said.
Hey you big execs stop looting the company! I mean what the hell is M Shore's group doing? Now they think he can make product? It's just as laughable as HotWheels marketing guy leading design.
And will someone please tell us why Helenek is still around??? FACE PALM again...so hard.
So sad to keep seeing so much talent thrown out when there is so much redundant management. Won't be much left. Someone needs to wake up, jobs aren't that hard to find right now. It's not 2008. When employers could do anything they want.
There were just a few, two in the electronics who actually did work & were good at their jobs, one in sculpting, and a seamstress who did work hard but who cares. Instead of firing a seamstress who knew her job and was good at it they should fire the Sr.V.P. of Barbie/Girls &who doesn't have a clue of what she's doing but just rules through intimidation/yelling at people. These are just a few, maybe that's the way they'll do it now because HR is too stupid/inept to handle a mass layoff. This is just the beginning, it's going to get worse as the Q3 numbers are announced and the headwinds/tailwinds BS speeches begin yet again during the question & answer charade. What a joke as it's all a big cover up but the investors are too stupid to realize until the bottom falls out of their stocks. What an awesome train wreck as the SVP's take their millions, the EVP of HR laughed all the way to the bank in his Brinks truck several weeks ago when he left & probably will still get his Laker suite seat tickets as well. Nice gig for those who have it, who cares about the talented hard working people that actually paid his salary.
Supposedly the NYC office is due as well. We're all tense like cows in a slaughterhouse waiting for the hammer to fall. Amazing how the higher ups hide in their fishbowls avoiding eye contact with everyone. We'll know it's true when 80's chick (head of HR) decides to go into the conference room.
So sad. I used to enjoy coming here every day. Now it's a god dammed misery. I hate you SL and your useless leadership. Your oversized ass did nothing but help sink this boat. you should have been given the boot years ago for your continued failures. POS.
Sculpting and sound lab got hit as well.
Chem Lab & Electronics lab also lost folks yesterday and more layoffs happened today.
It's a Dog n' Pony show for investors at the coast of human beings loosing livelihoods. shameful !!!
This makes complete sense. Mattel does not respect creative talent. It is viewed as overhead that can be sourced more cheaply overseas. Each move that is being done by the company is to insure that the dividend is paid to the shareholders. The company is being gutted but it isn't apparent to the stock holders. Not yet at least. This behavior of promoting non creative people to VP positions in charge of brands such as Hot Wheels will be reflected in poor sales due to product that nobody will want. I apologize for the finger pointing but the only thing that can bring Mattel out of the death spiral is forward thinking in regards to better product. Cutting out the creatives is not forward thinking. I for one will be watching the stock. When it goes into the low teens, I might buy. That signals a possible sell off of the company and at that point the sum of the parts might be worth more than the whole .....imo
