The company I currently work for will soon have about 12000 employees and our CEO has decreed no filling openings with H1Bs. We will not sponsor any visas. Some BUs may go against this and do some hiring of H1Bs but in our org we are 100% following it. In our last round of layoffs, H1Bs were the first to go. This is how it is suppose to work.

The only number that matters to MNCs like QC is the bottom line -- cheap labor equals higher executive compensation. QC has corrupted the spirit of the H1B allowance.

No math is better than bad math, is that what you're saying?

Anonymous140683, that's some bad math. The "shortage" / shortage (depending on viewpoint) that allows h1b is not to related to population of countries. It's related to available Americans for available Hi tech jobs, and available foreigners to fill any "slack"/slack.

I+C has 2+ Billion people; 3+ if you count all the expats. US has 300+ Million. The same %age of all populations around the world are tech talented, so please do the numbers before bashing H1-Bs. Statistically, you can expect that the hi-tech work place in US nowadays to be just 10% Caucasian. If you cannot compete for the top positions in tech, too bad for you.

@ 140504: Sure it is. Even when it's criticizing, the U-T wouldn't do anything to offend one of the major players in this town. The gist of the final paragraph is: "Suck it up, techies, and work harder for less," which is pretty much ripped from the QCOM playbook.
