Whom To Blame?

What is the current ratio of CEO pay to that of the average working slob at Chevron?

Obscenely high, certainly...400 to 1? John Watson effectively sets his own compensation by means of the appointments he recommends to the Board of Directors.

Depressing? Yup? Likely to change anytime soon? Hardly!

The defense, if there ever bothers to be one, is that these high salaries are NECESSARY in order to attract and keep exceptionally skilled people. Yeah...right. I say, at one fourth Watson's annual compensation, MANY gifted individuals could be found to run things...and run them better...and (perhaps) WITHOUT this deeply offensive and patronizing OE 'culture'.

Watson willike be gone within 6 months with 2x his salary as a parachute. Hey the sub mortgage mess. Every financial institution was leveraged. Some had only 2% assets to debt. They all got bailed out.....600 billion for AIG....they all got 30 million bonuses. There are no consequences. I understand they needed solvency or monet market would have sized. But nothing changed. Glass Stiegel act still is an after thought.

~173 times the avg slob. I think the high salaries are a thing of the past where companies paid for talent aka mgt and leadership but now we should be paying for ingenuity which hasn't happened yet.
