Staples is sinking ship, it has laid off 65 people recently from corporate office on August 04th. This is strange, for showing the better results in second quarter, Staples is laying off employees but keeping contractors.

The fair amount of people I know who are still there (a cross-section of hourly associates and managers) are literally taking it day-by-day, because nobody knows what's going to happen. Absolutely none of them feel the slightest bit secure about their future with the company, and all of them are actively seeking employment elsewhere. Hard to imagine that isn't the case on a nationwide basis: anybody who isn't able to read the tea leaves or has chosen not to is just operating on a mode of willful denial. I hope all the people I know are able to keep their jobs. I have no interest or hope that the company tanks however many years down the line, but Socal is spot-on in pointing out that morale HAS hit rock bottom, and all the employees get are these e-mail newsletters describing that day's latest batch of tinkering efforts, most of which come off like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. No big ideas or bold moves beyond the Depot merger regarding actually growing the business. Everything seems to be geared toward downsizing costs, closing stores and finding niche markets. Problem with that for those who still work there is that you don't need a work force of 80,000 to run a company which is about to neuter itself. Good luck and god bless those who are still there. Hope it works out for you.
It's time!....move on and be happy!
Moral is so low it bounced of the rock bittom jajaja. So glad I move on.
IT? Off to India those jobs go. I'm glad I'm out of that place, morale must be at an all time low or near rock bottom.
I think they were mostly IT.
What departments were effected?
