Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

BMC and GE

I am sure that JR will have a conference call to let everyone know that they need to call and not email or write anything when it comes to the new GE regs. He always wants to be sure he can have some deniability by being able to say, "I never said that" and making others the bad guy. Make sure you document everything he says. If not, you'll get screwed by him.

5617 - ding ding ding!!!! You are correct! Look at any new hire that he has a say in. One day, his time will come.

A Masters Degree won't fix his broken personality. He won't hire anybody he thinks he won't be able to control by bullying.

5494, that is a very interesting view. He does appear to have an inferiority complex of sorts. He does not do well with others who have a higher level of education and will push back against his ridiculous, baseless "advice". His "ideas" are typically rehashed comments from the last FY and are outdated and useless at this point. He is not as in-tuned to the way this job needs to be performed as he thinks he is. He could never do the job of a DoCS simply because it's a position that is built on trust with community. His idea is just send everyone's resume and tell them how wonderful the candidate is. His "advice" in doing the job alienates business partners if a DoCS follows his "guidance".

DF never wanted to promote him. It was Guy that did. And it only happened because JR wrote letters asking to branch off from Student Services. DF said no and went to Pittsburgh, Guy came and said yes. DF comes back to Cinch, and bam...JR had whined his way to VP of Career Services. Nowhere near qualified to understand true graduate career services. Shouldnt you have a Master's to be a VP of anything? Most his staff is more qualified than him. He probably hates that.

You have a really good point there because he doesn't really have the corporate or academic credentials to be in that position. All he knows how to do is be nasty and condescending to people. He is the perfect corporate fall guy.

Have you ever considered that JR is there to cook the books on placement? He was promoted to the executive team along with JM in Financial Aid/registrar. Both of them are power hungry and wanted to climb but I think both are being played for chumps. EDMC and DF won't do anything about them because they've got two fall guys in place who are stupid enough to get their hands dirty. They are right where EDMC wants them to be.

The previous two didn't do anything I believe. Just didn't want to take the job title change and pay cut, per HR....Instead of them, it should have been him with the pay cut and demotion. I like AB and SH too. Just sorry for them, they have to work him in office

I wonder what the two reps that worked in his office before did to cause them to be let go. He hired two more (our current two) to do the exact same work. I'm sure they are just thrilled to be with him every day. I guess everyone has a douchebag to work with or for. Sorry for them though, they're really nice people.

You can tell JR knows he has a different audience now. Too bad he has already sown enough ill will to reap a harvest of rebellion. He's not going to fool his new bosses. They will soon realize that he is a liability.

It's a good thing that JR inherited a team because he wouldn't know the first thing about assembling one. His management style is so obsolete. He's a legend in his own mind.

Watch what happens near the end of the reporting period. He will allow placements to go in, as he always does, then will chastise you for getting it done "in a nick of time" even though it would have been sooner if it were not for his warped approach. Danny needs to kick him to the curb, he's a joke.

Why is he still even here? What does he really do? One of the most clueless, want to be know-it-alls I have ever seen. Rude, disrespectful and a serious micromanager.

It is against company policy to change records. JR manipulates/ bullies the docs into doing it all the time. Lucky for him we are keeping a record of this.

Yes, JR is a bully and I know of several employees and ex-employees who have documented everything he says and does. And yes, he is a bully. I can't believe EDMC isn't doing something about it. Maybe he needs to be involved in yet, another, EEOC complaint. Then, when he gets googled by a company he has convinced to hire him (after he loses his job with EDMC and it costs a few million) they will see the trail of bullying, unethical, discriminating behavior and turn in another direction. Cream always rises to the top, JR...... Let's see how long it will take for the company to get slapped with a huge lawsuit over your bullying and unethical behavior. It will be sooner rather than later, and then you will feel the effects of being unemployed and virtually unemployable.

You are 100% correcto Munro on that! JR is a slime all, low, dishonest backstabbing ass. He thinks he is "safe", but I think we will see justice done to our slimy friend JR.

JR sucks. Why wasn't he rifted? What is his purpose?! Hopefully he stays at CS and makes no more pointless visits to campuses....waste of money.

Any time you have a phone "meeting", email with the phrase, "...just to be sure I am clear, we are going to do x,y,z..." or "...just so we are on the same page...", or something similar. He will not email back and will probably cry about it when he calls you but then again, you have to protect yourself as he will not. Don't ever think he, or anyone else (including your CP) is in your corner. They will do their best to try to bully and manipulate. You simply have to request clarification, in writing, as a way to protect yourself. They won't like it but then again, they only want people they can manipulate and control anyway. Just once it would be nice to hear him give a bit of advice or direction that isn't some canned, repetitive, nonsense that he's spouted 100 times before. He, and other, only try to justify their existence in a lousy organization and that is why they are always having the same conversations. Nice "managing".

All these posts are indicative of a dysfunctional and malignant work environment. That is always the hallmark of relentlessly bad management. Try to segue out as soon as possible to retake ownership of your life and leave the pathetic and unethical ones behind. It's a cliche but true; there's more to life than being a functionary in a scam to defraud students and taxpayers.

JR's unethical and bullying management style has created a hostile work environment. Effective managers can get work done without resorting to this. His management style is very lazy. It takes integrity and time to build a loyal team. All he has succeeded in doing is building a house of cards that is ready to topple.

I second that opinion with every manager type there. I got royally screwed once and when I tired to prove it, guess what, all the important conversations were off the record. At the time, I though my boss wanted to speak in person because it would be more important. Later on he denied ever having such conversations. This must be in the EDMC management hand book. To all my fellow comrades still there, make sure everything is in an email in case you have to verify. Oh and dont fall for the classic trick. You send an email about X but instead of a detailed reply, they pop by your work space and say hey, you want to chat about X I have a few minutes. Seems impromptu but its a doge. If they play this game here is what you do. Send the email about XYZ then if they play the verbal only game, go back and send a "thank you" email to them and outline everything you talked about. and most importantly what they said. It's like a confirmation that will save you down the road. it's harder to deny later that you had a conversation AND sent them a recap. Of course, they can say then never read it, but that's kind of a flimsy excuse at that point and still proves you had a conversation.
