In addition to all of this, you probably signed an arbitration agreement as part of your employment contract- just like the fine print students sign without reading. This was adopted in fall 2012. Even employees who were working there prior to that time were made to sign the agreement. Unless something really egregious happens, like overt, documented discrimination, physical assault or sexual harassment, most lawyers will not be willing to take your case on a contingency-basis; there's just not enough money in it.

Be careful of the advice given. Most of the severances are based on a non-suit clause. If you attempt to sue, they will withdraw the severance as per the offer. If the company has done something glaring, you might have a chance, but most of us work in at-will states, so we could lose the very few dollars that they are offering. Read that severance offer carefully and then decide about litigation. Of course, most packages are so low, it might not matter much either way.

Google "at will". Nothing to sue for. Waste of time.

Forward emails to your personal email or better yet print out those emails. You will be locked out of your company email first thing.

I second that, EDMC has a army of lawyers not to mention millions in insurance for that kind of thing. Even if you have a good case, you probably will loose. Why? Because you will be lucky to get one or two lawyers to file for you, EDMC tactics is to respond with a dozen to fight back and maybe include several different firms to hedge their bets. Plus as mentioned, severance in not a right unless you have it written in your contract. That said, if you have a blatant violation they made while letting you go, some kicking them when they are down might do them some good. And just maybe you will be lucky and win. Make sure you have documentation to back up your claim. E-mails with dates are good for this.

That's not going to work...companies are not required to give severance packages at all so if you got one feel lucky. Also, edmc has not been known to fight unemployment so that should be no problem. Now, if you fee as though you have been wrongfully discharged, you (or a group of you) would want to file a complaint with the national labor relations board who will listen to your case and potentially pursue.
