Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

So sorry to hear about the lay offs...

Unbelievable that there are posts stating that UOP is the best and the need to trim the fat needed to be done. How many years did these rumors go through the buildings like wildfire every month? Probably since the beginning. Anyone remember the term "Flavor of the Month" regarding the new and improved call strategies? This was true! Even Joe D'Amico stated during an a conference call with all of enrollment that he didn't understand why the system wasn't working. He was gone within 18 months. Millions of dollars that we as enrollment had made for the company to have the upper management level spend on strategies that did not work then and will not work now. I was not laid off, I decided to leave because I was tired of having an ax scraping across my neck everyday. Stress took a toll on my family and my health. No, I was not one who "skated" by. I did my best and had great retention with my students. I tried to relate to those enrolling by letting potential students know that I too was either in classes or enrolling in another higher level degree program. Management did not like it! However, my retention was high and so where my numbers regrading students who graduated. Managers came and went; I had 11 in an 8 year period. Some fantastic, others absolutely insane! The fantastic managers most have already left the company of their own free will, some where part of the last lay off. The bottom line is the industry is too saturated. UOP was the big fish for a long time, now UOP is close to drowning. Time to smell the coffee and realize this will happen again and the teams will diminish. Whether UOP is ready to throw in the towel, no one knows. The handwriting is on the wall, either look for a more stable position, or remain where you are. I made $52k when I left. I took a position and cut in pay of over $20K, and it was the best decision ever. My heartfelt prayers are going out to all those who were laid off or who are tired of going against their moral values for an organization who never has and never will care about it's employees, only the "bottom line".

I was let go in SoCal. Elated to be out of there, as I knew it was a ridiculous job and a waste of time. Happy to be off the sinking ship!!!!

Already on to bigger and better things. Haha!

I couldn't agree with you more. In my time there I never had a good manager. You were lucky to have had that many. I was a top performer the last few months of that dumb recognition program they had. I was already burnt out so being laid off was somewhat of a relief. Having 10 people in class and being asked why it wasn't higher. It seemed that it was never enough. My heart goes out to those that are still there and not knowing what's going to happen next. Knowing management, who said time and time again for the past few months that no layoffs were coming, they probably have no clue as what to do. Probably some corporate bs about cost cutting measures and that things will go on as it did before. It's all about providing "world class service." Yada Yada yada. Good luck to all of you who were affected. Hope that you all are able to find something soon.

I just took a dump on my manager's stupid face and then covered her in my seed. She's a cow in SoCal. Guess who?
