I hear they are going to pay field people on an hourly basis, good bye day rate. Welcome to Halliburton Baker Hughes!!!

What was messed up was that some of the "field engineers" that Baker recruited straight out of school did not even have a day rate or hourly rate. They were on straight salary for a while until they started getting bumped up in level, and they were not even significant raises at that.
No tool bonus is nothing new for Baker hands, especially those who worked land. That's why you always want to sign yourself up for basic directional only jobs, especially after you already got your level bumped up to 2,3,4 etc.
Wait until you get no tool bonus and see that you make the same as the next guy running a basic service!
Baker had a lawsuit regarding hours and overtime for field workers in US land. That probably had something to do with why they had switched from day rate to hourly. It is common for field hands to work more than the 12 hour shift per day, but with day rates, they didn't make anything extra. This way the company can say employees are getting paid for the hours they actually work (and document everything). On the flipside, as long as the hourly rate is decent, and OT is allowed, it actually works out alright for the employee.
