Interview Tip #550: Always make sure you know where you are in the interview cycle. You want to be towards the end, not the beginning

Last interview tip of the day. If you really want the job at a particular company, it's really really important you know where the company is at in the interview cycle for that position. That is, did they just start interviewing for that position or has that position been open for awhile?..It's really really important to know how long that position has been open for, because you don't want to be interviewing for that position right after it opens up, and the reason is simple.... Imagine there's this hot chick and she's young and single in her twenties. She's hot, and she knows it. So you, being the idiot you are, try to be the first guy dating her. She knows she's hot, and so she'll be overly demanding, and you'll bend over backwards to impress her, and despite your best effort to do that, more than likely, she'll dump you, because she wants to "try out" other guys, because she's young and hot and feels she has the time and energy to see who else better is out there...That hot girl will be picky, and date for fun for the next few years. But as her age begins to settle in, and her hottest begins to slowly decline, many of them will begin to settle down... Some will still be in denial thinking their still the hottest shit around..By this time, they are in their thirties, age has really taken hold, and they aren't nearly as hot as the new 20-something chick that's next door..And then holy shit, it finally hits... "I'm old"... Suddenly, there's a panic attack, and a sense of desperation: "I need to fill my quota before i expire worthless, and before my boobs sag even more..."...Suddenly all those picky/high standards that she had when she was in her twenties...gone...out the door... leaving a much lower bar to enter.... Same thing goes for a job opening.... A company is going to be damn picky right after the position opens. But if that position stays open for 1-2 months+, pretty soon, everyone gets tired of interviewing candidate after candidate...And in some cases, that position has to be filled before the next quarter, otherwise, due to budgetary issues, that position is "filled or lost".... So why bother going through the elaborate dog and pony show in the beginning, when the bar is so much lower toward the end? You want the company to experience "interview exhaustion" such that you walk in as the shining knight at the 9th hour, even though you might not have been the best candidate out of all the other candidates.
