Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

"They laid off all the Sales and Operations managers that were part of the lawsuit" This is not entirely true.

There are still many that participated in the lawsuit around. The non Stillman class was invited to join because it prevented further lawsuits for the lack of overtime pay claim. Since AMs went hourly Staples lost a source of cheap labor and has been trying to marginalize the AM position. Then they threw all the tasks of the Ops Mgrs on team supervisors to try to save some money. Though some of the sups were good and deserved to be AMs, many could not do the job, or just didn't want to do the job at around $24,000 per yr when the Ops managers they replaced were making $40k+.

So very true.... OM let go... Team Supervisor created. PT Team Supervisor created... No ops tasks being done. PT Team supervisor deleted. Team Supervisors reappointed as Operations Supervisor with the same duties and responsibilities as the now defunct Operations Manager... Oh at about 10K less pay a year........ No training and very little guidance given to perform the job... Read the policies, figure it out. Now being written up for failing LP / Operational audits. While also expected to keep with store standards and many MOD shifts........ Been with the company 15 years and I am over 60 years old... Seems maybe I should call Stillman myself..... by I Wrote This" PS, Just did 13 days in a row. Had to give up my days off for BTS and accomplishing operational tasks........

So true on telling them what they want to hear. Home office, and down to regional VP'S and DM's don't want to know the truth. They want the rose colored glasses ideal when they visit stores. So we give it to them for the day they visit, then it's back to doing whatever it takes to run the store. I run a T3 store and we have to blur the responsibilities of our managers and keyholders. We all do a lot of everything.

Virtually no store "actually tasked" the Team Supervisors with Op's work. It was absurd on the face of it. The Sups were first and foremost customer service and Front End line control. The Op's work was EXACTLY the opposite. Sitting at a desk entering schedule stuff or out back load handling... It was, as with most decisions coming from Framingham, DUMB. Store managers all knew it and did, and continue to do what is necessary to run the business. The method General Managers all use is a simple and tried and true one when dealing with Framingham.... "Tell them what they want to hear, show them what they want to see". So it goes like this, "yes sir, my Team Sup does ALL the Op's stuff and handles ALL front end stuff"...

R I G H T! This company has lied to itself for nearly a decade (the longevity of the lie is a tribute to how strong they use to be). It's not going so well now and does not have a likely outcome that is good.

How's that SPLS stock doin for yuh?
