Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

The "separation agreements" and budget cuts show how little management know about their schools! Money wasted on PR events, open houses,

Launching non-Credit classes and some worthless employees. The lack of any focus on the quality of the product - the education- will be the nail in the coffin for edmc. Just when I think things can't get worse..

They know exactly what they are doing. Its a planned fail with a paper trail. AI and EDMC corporate way. My guess is they will continue at act publicly like they are trying their best to "help" the "under served" students but privately get out as much cash as fast as they can. When if finally goes down, they will point to the fake paper trail they created blaming it on the government and low enrollment. They will not take responsibility no matter how much of it is theirs, just like ENRON. That way they can all go on the other jobs as if none of it was their fault.

They know exactly what they are doing. They want it to fail. Failure is still profiting the right people.

I believe the reason they want to gut the brands and replace people with inexperienced/new personnel is because they want those they can manipulate. It is very hard to force knowledgeable employees to do things that are unethical and wrong (given that they are ethical). Anyone who has the guts to tell someone that the way they practice business is ridiculous and non-sensible will be forced out one way or the other then replaced with inexperienced newbies who will be "taught" to do things in a way that may work UNTIL they are audited or investigated. Then they will be thrown under the bus.

they also laid off the person responsible for actually doing our accreditor-required assessment of things such as LASAs and replaced with an administrator who does not understand statistics very well

It's depressing that we as lowly employees understand more of what's going on than the people making the decisions. On the last round of layoffs they let go almost everyone who understood a certain process (pre-cert) and now there are thousands of students back logged a few weeks because there aren't enough people to do the process. It's clear that nothing will humble them but that seems like an enormous mistake that would shake them up a bit.... But more bad decisions to cover previous bad decisions...

There will always be money for the facade. Previous poster referred to it aptly as a potemkin village. But that's how a confidence game is played-all the trappings, no subtance. You then need to find a victim-usually someone who is desperate or ignorant or just someone who was raised to believe that some people especially in education care about you. Now you are ready to tap into title IV funds. Sort of like Cosby on a date with a 19 year old. Did I mention that not having a conscience is an absolute necessity.
