I strolled over to the ConocoPhillips blog. Appears their severance is 3 or 4 weeks for every year. Far better than ours, who would have thunk it? We work for the Walmart of the oil patch.

Life is better outside of chevron! There is peace in knowing you don't ever have to work for these clowns again (and that's being nice) take the severance and never look back
No, sign on bonus is vested over time, need 2 years to be fully vested. So, I guess they would deduct remainder from your last paycheck
Seriously, 124051? The sign-on bonus was just that, a bonus. It's yours to keep. If in fact you were hired on so recently, I thought no you have a great chance of staying with Chevron. If you show up for work on time, spend your time contributing and doing your job, you will likely stay where you are. I know these are difficult times, but try to focus on the positive. I also wish you the best.
Will I get to keep the remainder of my sign-on bonus?
Well said, 124027 and 124000.
I suggest you hurry up and find a job with COP so you can get fired from there and get a better severance. Anon 124000 is absolutely correct. Chevron has no obligation to give you anything. 2 weeks per year is not uncommon. When I joined, I didn't ask or think about severance since I, like everyone else, figured it would never apply to me. Just hope you keep your job, but be happy the company will give you some cash to help you through the next few months of job search if you do get laid off.
Anonymous123990, please keep in mind severance pay is not obligatory. It's not an entitlement. It's not a requirement by law. In Chevron, it has been a long standing norm to pay only 2 weeks per year of service (52 week max payout). I don't know of anyone who joins a company based on their severance plan. Was your post a serious one?
