Wow just as Cabelas is creating VP's, Directors, assistant Director of each director plus directors of directors. Oh I forgot VP of Directors of store outdoor smells oops that failed after millions spent, the animal sounds VP, directors of stench that spent millions only to fail in 1 month. Cabelas is so TOP heavy it looks like a Carnaval Cruise liner. Oh now that Cabelas has waisted millions upon millions of dollars on stupid things, they know will reduce full time employees to 33 hours a week.

Omg....the animal sounds were horrible!
On the executive level, Cabela's needs to explore moving their HQ. You will not attract top talent by moving them to Sydney, Nebraska ( a 2 hour drive from the Denver airport). There are too many "green horns" running the show and several with minimal or Cabela's only experience. Lots of dumb, inexperienced decisions being made.
"Cabela's biggest problem" statement above: Cabela's has moved far beyond the small town growth they once were. That's one of the reasons they are in trouble. They are having a difficult time competing. The fact is hours and jobs have been cut bringing down the morale over the entire retail end of things. The company has lost the perspective it had, focused on customer service. I have worked in other businesses, was "lured" into Cabela's, and am now looking for a way out before the next shoe drops.
There are now no scheduled optics outfitters EVER. Optics has a pretty high margin and a STEEP learning curve so there should be trained people there. We now have no subject matter experts on the very expensive (7-9 THOUSAND dollar thermal /night vision scopes. The gun counter now has to staff long guns, hand guns, black powder, GPS, knives, spotting scopes, range finders, knife sharpeners and optics. Most of the time we have three folks on the gun counter. It is not uncommon to help a customer for twenty minutes picking out a scope, knife or binos if you have two of three folks doing that then you have one person on the gun counter and people walk out without being helped. I should also mention that hunting is staffed very lean too so being out on the floor selling ammo, holsters or safes for thirty minutes at a time is a real possibility. One outfitter got caught SLEEPING in the gun vault and she was not even on the list of outfitters allowed in the vault. Some people can't go into the vault due to some new policy so they have to wait for another outfitter to get guns for them which can be really silly when the people that can go into the vault are at lunch. Forget about calling a " code three" which is supposed to bring help to the gun counter. You will get zero response or you will get a lecture about the lack of people that are gun safety trained. In my mind all senior managers and leads should be able to help in ALL areas of the store.
You have no clue what you are talking about. The biggest problem for cabelas is a bunch of people who grew up in a small town that feel entitled to something. It's not cabelas responsibility to support people that lack perspective. I encourage you to go work for any other business in today's environment and not want to come running back!!
