Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Word Vomit

Hardman says, “As part of our continuing efforts to offer students a great learning experience while keeping education affordable..." Are they going to lower the price of the education? Highly doubtful. So in actuality, they are simply making sure they can keep paying their execs in the big offices. It is a myth that customer service will improve by streamlining services to help better care for the customers. Your Campus Director will tell you that is the case though.

110222, calling out inaccuracies in these dialogs is very important because EDMC seems to live by shading slightly inaccurate or hyperbolic statements to their benefit. (True personal anectdote- a couple of years ago I walked by a room full of potential students being given the open-house tour and heard the ADA tell them that some culinary graduates were making 60-70-80,000 right out of school. I reported him to my boss, but he was still there, selling away-and maybe he still is. He was very convincing.) The actual tuition for CSUs is a little over $8000 per academic year with books and lab fees. http://www.calstatela.edu/financialaid/2014-2015-cost-attendance Even if your sister is paying out of state tuition it is still cheaper than Ai, tuition. Having said this, I think Ai is beginning to head in the right direction with the 20% reduction in tuition, which, for low-income students, puts them in the territory where their education costs may be almost completely covered by grants and low-interest loans, as long as they don't borrow money for their living expenses. I always thought it was a good education- for $50,000, terrible deal at $100,000.

It is cheaper than a lot of state schools for undergrad. My sister is at 22k a year at a cal state school without a meal plan lol. Think what you want because you are obviously bitter but having worked with faculty, gone to portfolio shows, talked to graduates and had my mom finish her bachelors in healthcare management at suo and is now gainfully employed. Live in your world of ignorance and anger and go away. I have worked for this company when ohe was at its worst and through all of the changes since. Sure there have been a ton of regulatory changes but there are also persistence based scholarships that didn't exist 3 years ago as well as much more due diligence on educating students on cost... Which was never done for me at my undergrad and I paid way more than tuition here. Go shop some grad schools for things like a simple MBA 35-40k and 2 years for a lot of them. But I digress you don't actually want data that shows this company actually provides value or does anything right.

"students are getting a more affordable education than at most non-profits" This is a lie. Not only is EDMC more expensive, they dont deliver on the same quality level of education. Its night and day, like high school vs college.

Edmc is the most expensive for profit around. Even without an increase in undergrad tuition for 3 years. They did just increase masters and doctorate tuition though. For Argosy $561 a credit is insane. Talk about wanting to take as close to that agg limit as possible. Even university of ohoenix with their tiered tuition comes out to less a credit. EDMC is in the business of f***ing students financially but we all knew that.

"We do actually educate people" - is that a statement that instructors who have been to "pass students, no matter what" would agree with? I'm sure there are many who will disagree although gainful employment will be the true indicator of success. How many grads are actually working in related jobs as opposed to in-field? When you look at those numbers and not do the "corporate manipulation" of the explanation, the truth really shines.

We do actually educate people. Tuition costs haven't increased in the past 3 years. So I don't agree with the criticism of the statement. Do I wish they would explore other means of reducing costs sure, but don't belittle the fact that students are getting a more affordable education than at most non-profits and have the same job opportunities.

"As part of our continuing efforts to offer students a great learning experience while keeping education affordable" So I guess this was not a concern before? That says a lot.
