Tens of thousands of oilfield workers got the axe in this 2015 downturn. In the overall picture, this is normal. The result of a 35-year study conducted by Chuck Pierret, an economist with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, found that the average American held nearly 11 different jobs by the time he/she is 42 years old. Up and down is a part of the industry, even though this downturn is one of the worst ever. This too shall pass.
