Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

IM BACK AND IT SUCKS - OH YEAH I HAD TO RETURN THE SEVERANCE

LAID OFF DURING FEB/2015 (RESTRUCTURING) WHICH APPARENTLY MEANT NOTHING. FIRST HAND I WITNESSED DE-LAYERING (MASS EXODUS OF GREAT PRODUCTIVE DIFFERENCE MAKERS) AND NOW AGAIN WATCHING RE-LAYERING OF WORTHLESS, POOR EXCUSED, BUZZWORD INFESTED NO GOOD FOR NOTHING MIDDLE MANAGERS.

CITRIX EXTENDED SEVERANCE PACKAGES BASED ON YOUR YEARS OF SERVICE. I RETURNED TO CITRIX AND SHOCKINGLY DEMANDED I RETURN THE LEFT OVER PORTION OF MY SEVERANCE. THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY LANGUAGE DURING THE "EXIT aka LAY-OFF".

WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO CITRIX? ANYONE ELSE RETURNED AND ASKED TO RE-PAY SEVERANCE ?

con't - My only advise is to keep your eyes open because I've never seen people coming back from a layoff and staying there for a long time. Use this time to recoup your losses, save as much as you can, and regularly scout the areas for potential job offers. Go to interviews, even if you are not fully interested, just to keep your interview engines running. The next two years should be critical now that you are back. Look at this as a new opportunity. You are about to loss your severance. Well, other people have lost worst. It all resolves one question: Which hit are you willing to take, the loss of your severance package or not accepting the job? Or more precisely, how much of a financial hit are you willing to take on principle? That is all you need to consider. Pouting and being sour about the bad deal you are getting will get you nowhere. Only you know your financials, but if you can, I would counter-argue the re-hiring offer by saying that you would come back to Citrix if you keep your severance. Live and learn.

con't. Only you know the circumstances why you went back. People say there are great opportunities out there. "Great" is in the eye of the beholder. I hope you are getting compensated at or better than how you were before the layoff, otherwise, you are losing money (in addition to losing part of your severance.) I can understand the possible reasons to go back. It takes time to get a new job (it can easily take 4, 5 or even 6 months.) Better to take the closest branch, if at least temporarily than not having one to hang on to.

Dude, if you are back as a contractor (meaning you are an employee of a consulting firm), then the severance package is yours to keep. But if you came back as an employee, specially so shortly after the layoff, then, typically all bets are. Kind of a dickish move by Citrix, but OTH, I think most companies will protect themselves from double-dipping. Because an employee coming back shortly from a layoff would be double dipping. See, if the severance package is, I dunno, 3 months, then that means the company is compensating with 3 months of work for free. And then, say you come back 2 months after the layoff, then the company could reasonably say "woa, we compensated you for 3 months of unemployment, but you are back, so you should give us back 1 month."

LOL. Are they paying you more than before the layoff?

Why did you go back as Anonymous102853 said as well?

PS - Maybe get them to buy you a new keyboard that has a caps lock facility and enter key

If it is not in the paperwork you signed they can't do that and I don't remember it the paperwork I signed. All they can do is not rehire you if you say no which actually could be grounds for legal action.

You should counter if they want the severance back does that mean they will also treat you as a full time employee with all the benefits that you loss when they let you go in the first place (401K vestment, PTO, etc.).

Interesting ... why on earth did you return to Citrix?

Lots of other great opportunities available in the area.

Would you expect any different from this clusterf@#! of an HR department and Company? It probably was buried in your paperwork somewhere, but still a low-class move to demand it be paid back. Keep it classy Citrix. You really need that $5k vs. this guy who went through the hell of being laid off. What a great place to work. God I cant wait for my offer to come in, I'm so out of here.
