Don't worry, the twins will fix everything, right??! I wonder which corporate ass is on the line if they don't...

Quitting to get a raise? There's history of that here in NYC. Go ask one of the good ol' boys here....!
Hiring them back was a bad idea. If someone is so unhappy that they quit, is money really going to make them happy? Would you want to work next to someone who quit to get a raise? Sets a horrible precedent, but that's the way of the new CMO. Style over substance.
And now they are so important they created new jobs for them. Give me a break. People have been resigning daily and only these guys have value? They didn't realize they were valuable before they resigned? Seriously. Mattel leadership is an abomination.
I never post on here but can't let this go by without saying something. Those two guys were NOT complainers or divas or any of those things. They are hard working decidated people who love what they do and want to make great toys. They left. They were NOT sour grapes. They did not try to take credit for anything they did. They are team players. They were AGAINST EA because it horned in on MH. Anyone who says all these lies about them must never have worked with them. Only comment on what you know about, please.
Agreed, FAH was derivative and cannibalistic to MH. The team proudly proclaimed in an in-house video that FAH used the same formula as MH. How could anyone be dumb enough to say that out loud?
Yes Twins had Mobster high initial concept. People helped turn it from just a doll line (would have failed) into a full brand. Great success.
They also became arrogant and came up with Ever After High, which wasn't great at all. Derivative, too high concept for girls, and final blow to Disney to make them take the business to Hasbro. Hopefully they become humble again but don't see it happening in the next few years. Now they're Hasbro's challenge to manage.
Dont look at invididuals leaving - look at the sheer numbers of people leaving for Hasbro Burbank and the number of people quitting with no job lined up - that is a true measure of a disfunctional company.
To the poster who asked about matching the offer - that never works. By the time someone has an offer from another company, they've made up their mind to leave. Do you really want someone on your team who quit but then came back just for more money?? You need to fix the issues that cause people to look elsewhere, like poor leadership.
The amazingly sad part is that Mattel made no matching offer to keep them from leaving. So much for Alan Kaye's hollow promise to attract and retain the best talent. Darker days are ahead for Shittel.
can't we all just get along? this site should be building a community amongst peers not throwing stones at each other.
Yeah, boy, those designers that just left the company sure are failures. Leaving to go off to their "better jobs" that probably pay them "more money." Buncha quitters, amirite?
if you are so irritated by everyone's attitude or "complaining little bitches" - why are lingering around on this board? Why aren't you hanging out with the winners & big boys? Are you hanging around for the tea & crumpets? Take your Tony Robbins sermon and go make some money for this company. Go ahead, big boy show us all how its done and get Mattel out of this mess.
It's never about the credit or who did what or "look what I can do". It's about getting respect for who you are and leaving this place like you did your part and now it's time to move the f on. Not to sit around and bitch about what shoulda-woulda-coulda.... There will always be finger pointing and people to blame and throw under the bus. If you can leave this place honorably and gracefully, you are truly a legend. Leave here a complaining little bitch who didn't get what he/she wanted and then keep on bitching about it even when you are long gone... well that says alot about you. This site is funny. Why linger on what has happened? Figure out what's next and act on it. Stop throwing shit on a wall and expecting someone else to clean in it up. Grow some balls. You have so much to say than do something about. Those "twins" that left the company are not an example of talent leaving, on the contrary, they they are an example of talent failing. If design is your life than you should thrive designing in difficult situations because you are being challenged. Alot of you call this company hell. You all act like you didn't know what the f you got into. This is a fing corporation- a fing business that thrives on making money. Your challenge is to figure out how the f to instill design in this "Hell" of a machine. If you can't stand the heat of hell than get the f out. Find yourself a nice wet, cold little pond to sulk in. Hell is where the big boys play. Not where wussies run off crying about not being to hide their non-talent any longer. Stop feeing sorry or bad about losing quitters. It only means there's more room for the winners.
I find it ironic that the people who created the line (regardless of what you think of their talents) languished in ES while the folks who took credit for it are now VP's and GM.
If it's swell, it's Mattel should be changed to If you feel like you're in hell, you're probably working for Mattel.
get over themselves... they couldn't even draw for shit... mattel should send hasbro a thank you note.
isn't this kind of sad message to design? That this will be you in a few years? That if you finally start making a decent salary, enough to actually live on, something that you could pay the mortgage with, then you become a target? It doesn't create anything that you want to aspire to become - if you finally get a promotion, it starts a ticking clock that you are NEXT in line for the inevitable round of layoffs. and that is a WHEN not IF. This is Mattel we're talking about.
All "talent" has left the building? HA. That is quite a ridiculous statement. I really don't think the corporation is going to collapse due to the loss of those two. They will be replaced with cheaper younger and eager designers. I'm sure they'll get a bargain at 6 designers for the price of 2.
Good riddance. They were pompous divas anyway.
leadership tells us that they want to nurture creativity and innovation. yet, when the creators and innovators want to create and innovate, they are met with the same hurdles. again, another passionate designer leaving because they could not create in this environment. what is the leadership going to do about this. look around, people are leaving. tell me you care, tell me why only design was laid off. tell me why marketing and senior management were not effected by the layoff. read between the lines. the leadership does not care, they want to outsource everything expect the suits and the marketing teams...with no creatives.
Me too :)
They really did walk out the door yesterday. Another grim reminder of how bad things really are in ES.
I am still here
