Keep in mind that in 6 months to a year (if/when the buyout goes through) Staples will have another 1500 stores they DO NOT WANT. On top of an expensive buyout, they will have to package out a lot of people. It is easier and cheaper for them to make store conditions impossible and either drive people out or fire them now and then keep some of the lower paid OD/OM staff.

Be care full, they may SWAT you if you say something that can even remotely be taken as a threat. I have seen this happen (not at Staples) over trivial things based on the expected reaction to giving someone bad news. On the bright side, the person sued his company for it and won. It can be very easy to get stressed out in this company. The expectations are unreasonable and the resources provided to achieve such lofty goals are insufficient. At this point I just go in, try to focus on the agenda, but end up far from completing it. To many (needy) customers and to few associates in the building to help them all to the level needed for a good CSAT and also get everything done. By needy I mean they want "free" tech support for items they did not buy at Staples, they want ink but do not know the # or printer model, they wait until they are at the register then demand the cashier print out their rewards for them, etc, etc. I tried to make things work for far to long and stressed myself out over it, only to be rewarded with scaled down evals and no bonus. The writing is on the wall, this company (at least the retail division) is sinking and there is little effort by corp to fix it. Their idea of fixing it to simply to demand more out of store personel rather than giving them the right tools. Staples has treated me ( and almost everyone I know) like crap in the last few years, so I no longer have any qualms about not giving more than 100% effort. I just go in, do what needs to be done and get out. It doesn't even matter because even if I did give more, I would still get a crappy eval and no bonus next year.
