Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Conocophillips...Enron with Less Competent Management!

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" (Edwin Burke).

Now that the leaders have been purged or silenced, what will it take to save COPC? Or is the shell of two former industry leaders worth saving at all? The assets still have value, but the workforce now lacks innovation, morals, true leadership or vision. Lots of talk, but this place is dying a slow death!

The no way, yes way comment is certainly the more optimistic of the comments to date. The efforts at ConocoPhillips certainly did result in the positive career moves for any number of other employees but a poor example of a supervisor prevented a positive career move for myself. The awards and recognition were of no value in the mind of the supervisor so in the end a layoff and opportunity elsewhere is the better option. Ideally the efforts at ConocoPhillips will work to the advantage of both myself and the future employer.

I would normally agree with Old Hand, but this layoff was not focused on redundancy or wrong place. There is way too much gloating and posturing by the new in-crowd. Most have no clue that they will eventually be the target, or that the mentors most capable of getting them the title that they spend so much time "networking" for are now gone. COP needs real leadership, not just a bunch of VPs and managers!

I have a great deal of sympathy with those made redundant, its my 3rd cycle at boom and bust and there are always winners and losers. Mostly wrong place, wrong time, and in my view little to do with competency or back scratching.

On the second day of my new job, I was asked to compile a list of Peiple at COP who would be worth keeping/recruiting and a list of absolute "no way" employees. I have great memories of my 26 years of service, but the list of COP hands that I would recommend is much smaller than the list of "no ways". Even funnier is that I would (and did) stake my reputation on the competence, value and professionalism of 99% of the recently severed COP employees that I know of!

God forbid we buy COP, because I do not want to have to clean up all of the problems!
