So I signed a document that said I would be paid 1900 for this term. As of this morning I have received no compensation. The document says explicitly that this isn't a contract, yet I could not teach without it, thus making it a contract regardless of what the document says. Perhaps adjunct instructors need to get together and sue for missing pay. I doubt that CCi has any money left if they cannot pay off the adjuncts they had to have spend hours setting up classes that would not run. I spent two hours of my Saturday working on my course before I got the "Elimination" phone call. Every year, I heard what a crappy instructor I was because I insisted on proper English grammar in academic papers. "These students come from difficult places and times." My response was "So this is not a college?" Heald was a joke, I won't even put them on my resume.

Well, you're luck that you have the option of excluding them from a resume. Anyone who worked there more than 2 years pretty much has to unless they were also doing something else at the time.
California does not have employment contracts. That is more like an offer letter but all the extreme dumbasses who work for Heald call it that even though it is not. Yes, you have to get paid for time worked but not in advance in an at will situation. It isn't morally right but given that the company is belly up well, you can't get blood from a turnip.
Wait - are you talking about getting paid full boat for a class that started in the April term that you did not actually teach because you were terminated before it started? Good luck with that claim.....
I believe we are getting paid for the remainder of what we are owed for January, and work for the April term through today.

On the surface it sounds like you have a reasonable claim for small claims court. You might even win. Unfortunately, you will never colllect any judgement awarded to you.
Nobody would put Heald on a resume. It was never anything but a pretend college run out of rented space by profiteering goons.
You are not getting paid.
