I try to give the benefit of the doubt a few times. If I see a trend, it turns into a undocumented verbal counseling. If the trend is not corrected soon after, it is a write up, and another, then the third, and gone. If I see genuine effort to improve the behavior, I let a couple random occasions go, but if it is blatant, regular, "IDGAF" constant lateness, they are gone.
In most cases the answer is yes. Normally it's a three strike rule with proper documentation. When the third write up or final warning is in place if you are late again it's instant termination. It's kind of like the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor. With the levels of staffing what they are at the current time if you know your job most managers would be hesitant to let a trained employee go for such a reason.... 10 minutes early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable. Live by that rule and this conversation is redundant .
