Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

You work for 16 years with a company only to say your capped even after money was taken from you

ive worked with staples for 16 years almost half my lifetime. About five years ago when they took the office supply lead away they took money from me that I worked hard for. I took the position as an IA but at a cut to my pay... What was I suppose to do I didn't want to loose my job right ? I took the position and more then five years later I finally got a raise..... 12 flipping cents! ( remind you they took money from me because they closed my current position)Seriously?! Min wage had gone up three times since I took the position and I only got 12 cents after five years. If min wage goes to what the president wants it to be a cashier can come off the road making almost as much as me and what I built for 16 years. That's insane. I get miss treated by this company constantly anything from being mentally beaten down by management, and constantly crying while at work to blown off phone calls to my DM and HR. They don't understand the value of their employees they shit on management and then it trickles down to us bottom feeders... Yet we have to run their company smoothly right... Smh. You might ask me then why have you been with them so long... I've forgotten my worth because of this place, forgotten my confidence . my personal life has suffered so much because of the stressful environment of this company that this is what I know life to be as now. My past manager have abused me mentally so much so that when my grandmother passed I was scared to ask for two days off so needless to say I didn't attended any services. I get no help in my position .if I even take just ONE extra day off on top of my two. There's just a big heep waiting for me. The last time I took any vacation time was .... I can't remember. I earned four weeks and if you check your books I've saved this company TONS of vaca time that I've never used. TOOOOONS!!!!!.

Staples needs to stop the bullshit and get down to the stores level and see how we are being treated. Stop doing your Friday wine tasting and see where this company is heading..... Who is getting paid to think Like this? All these "changes" they keep making only seems to be making the company sink! They cut the stores hours then want happy employees or the ones that are there to wear six hats because we don't have payroll to cover the store. Its a shame.

I have to agree.. I left well over a decade ago and I can tell you I was tired of having the management not follow it's own policies and procedures and then being threatened by managers that if I speak up. I used to be responsible for closing the building each night. The last year I was there I had to find register picks left by the managers....and a register pick is money in a plastic bag that must go into the safe.......Well this money was left on the floor behind counters and rolls of coins were deliberately taken out of the safe and left in various locations to make my life hell when counting the safe at night for the next morning. I reported this violation to loss prevention, the District Manager and other managers in different stores..because no one would listen to what I had to say. You know what I was met with? Threats that if this was acknowledged all the managers would have to be fired ...so I should shut up....and be quiet and say nothing. It's hard to do that when you spend two hours a day finding money on the floor.

That's Staples Core Values ...turning a blind eye.

I was with Staples for12 years. I took a job 2 miles from my home. It was a cut in pay but the peace of mind outweighs all

Just in case you missed the article in the Boston Globe https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2015/05/31/staples-ceo-pay-climbs-while-retailer-business-struggles/WZjCR2cdXWkyMtxOxY0XBK/story.html. It is all about making money for the guys at the top. Nothing else matters. They WANT people like you to quit.

ALL my associates earn more, SOME much more, after only a few months. Embrace change, be professional and give one week notice! Then post here what you know how f&cking stupid AXXholes they clearly are. Be glad if you own no STOCK cause it's going no where! When accepting your new pay at a better company make sure they don't "AXE" you any inappropriate questions about your former "BIDNESS" or seem upset that ANYONE would won't a BONUS when THEY ALL GIVE THEMSELVES ONE! Look they truly SUCK and it was apparent when they "thought" they were going global and hobnobbing with the political class (circa 2007 ish).... the declines can be tied directly to these moments in time. they forgot growing the business was more important than there wish to be part of the elite! When they finally realized the business was in trouble they had NO IDEAS and they still don't.

Honestly, with your situation as you described, I'd have to agree with Annoyed - by now, you know exactly what all your effort, hard work and loyalty means to the company you work for. You know where you stand and where the company stands. You know see your situation for what it is. From what you wrote, it sounds like you're not making much per hour. There are a TON of low-paying jobs out there that you don't have to bust your ass for nearly as much. Stick around and get your severance if you think your store is going to be on the chopping block, get your signed layoff notice from the company so you can collect and have this documentation/notice in your possession when you apply for future employment. If nothing else, learn from this experience and take the lesson forward: it's only a job. Especially when you're at the bottom of the pay scale. Do the job the best you can, but if you're getting paid close to min wage don't let it take over your life.

I can relate. ..so going forward you are aware of how you stand with this co.....they just don't take care of the people. Live and learn...move on..you will find something that makes you happy, it's definitely not with staples.
