Thread regarding Syntel Inc. layoffs

Innovative choking tactics employed to force senior people out.

To force senior people out they were rotated and forcibley made to work in lowend tasks like coding and test case execution and if they successfully do it (which leads to the situation where they cannot be labelled as non technical) the senior people were made to report to junior resources (manager made to report to lead and delivery manager made to report to junior pm, PL3 made to report to PL1 or AP3) till they resign.

While the person is working on customer deliverables mail are circulated that he/she is DNC (delivery non conformance - person doing less valuable work than his position in hierrachy) and once the Dm feels that the new team is all set the targeted person suddnely find himself/herself on bench ready to be fired by HR who starts with the question what is the difference bewtwen u and trainee and threatens that if you dont resign voluntarily in the system you will be given termination letter stating your fired for performance reasons.

If company is hiring skilled resources and asking them to work on excel then its company fault not resources.

The entire IT industry knows all left over projects are collected by syntel like beggars and rag pickers.

They have no right to judge resources as they doesn't have the minimal sensibility in selecting their own projects.

They entertain any bullshit clients with impractical project deliverable timeline commitment which is why neither client nor employee are happy.

Senior management is only to be blamed for this.

I wish all the very best to the resources in their career. Just piece of suggestion to the people who are layed off. Don't go behind big brands they are worst in managing internal politics. Be wise in selecting intelligent assignments.

Employees are the greatest assets for a IT company worth its salt.

If a resource is billable and client is paying for his /her services, I should believe the costs would be covered.

So what is the need for the billable resources to be dismissed. Is it the greed or the need to improve the margin by replacing the resource. Performing resources are assets and Non Performing Resources are liabilities. So the company should remove the weeds not the seeds. I fail to fathom the logic of dismissing billable resources.

The company has been in the industry for 35 years. They know what they are doing.

The end justifies the means as far as the company is concerned. Short Term result, the company will improve its cost.

What obligation does the company have towards its employees ?.

How do you measure productivity of a resource working on excel. Even a tenth grade student can enter formulae in a excel and report on when a resource comes to work n leaves for the day.

If cost is the main concern all non performing assets and weeds should be discarded. Anyway the company knows best and we should not judge anyone.

Time will tell on these wise decisions of treating employees in such a way.

What about the resources were pulled off from billable project and released. I was given the reason they can't bear my cost. Its very amateur. I wasn't part of MSO

some one wrote about innovative method - whoever said seem to have camouflaged the word unethical.

These things show a fundamental flaws in leaders at many levels in the organization,where in people cant trust the leaders and managers and have to keep watching their backs to ensure their careers are not sabotaged by the so called well connected people .

to quote a instance - If a set of people who were performing well in challenging project that is running well were suddnly released (and labelled as non performers and fired ) just because the DM of the account wanted to move the good project to the sin-tel office in his home city), it conveys a lot to professionals who want to take a decision whether to make a long term career in company... be careful as to who u serve.... u may be shortchanged after the purpose is served if this type of leadership culture exists in the company.

Keep in mind that ur management considers 90% of resources working in MSO 's are not indispensable (very easily replaceable with cheaper employees - so while u work in MSO(testing, infra or support) you are always at risk of layoff... chose the type of work carefully so that u have long career- no guarantee of job in mSO roles after 5 years exp.

stop blaming the HR folks.. they have nothing to do with ur firing... decision comes from ur current boss or previous boss and vertical(if ur are on bench)

HR is just a reluctant camouflage for them . understand who ditched u before venting ur ire on the hapless Hr folks

U are not billable for 3 months, u show up in a list that tracks non billable folks - ur previous bosses are contacted to confirm if they want u back if they say u are dispensable or if no one needs u r asked to leave as the firm is unable to utilize ur skills or ur are not able to meet the firm current needs etc etc ... as simple as that.

You are absolutly right. I was also in this same situation. I observed this and questioned HR. Next day I was asked to move out.

The treatment meted to the employees is deplorable. Management has stock options.

Employees have option to choose to dance to the tunes of the co or look for other pastures. No point in complaining and being a victim. Be a Victor and take control of your career.

All these days HR never did anything. Only thing they did was misbehaved with employees and mistreated and laid of us. The HR people have no value and ethics. The new company whichever taking over should terminate them because they corrupt and spoil their process and their policy. Please remove them from the system immediately. All these HRs very very poor performance resources.
