Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

How much severance pay are people getting? How many weeks per years of service? Also is age a factor? If you are almost 65 are they laying off?

The separation was offered in such a way not to use age as a factor but between the lines it is. Older employees to a corporation are more expensive, insurance, more pay etc. The max. payout was 26 weeks depending on your years of service for our company if you volunteered, 9 weeks max if you got laid off and had at least 10 years of service. The 10 years is because they don't give you credit for the next year, i was one month away from an anniversary date. Good luck to all and I hope I get my severance package soon.

I know someone who worked less than a year and got the same as I did. I worked 3 years. How fair is that?

Hmm i wonder if its negotiable. I don't think 26 weeks is the max. According to labor laws it is 1 to 8 weeks per year. How is this decided i wonder?

I think the maximum severance is 9 weeks. The 26 weeks was an option for those who qualified for the voluntary separation program...not sure.

The maximum weeks of severance is 26 weeks, not one week for every year.

Severance is one week for every year of service, but they deduct a crap load of taxes. They also pay for any unused vacation time. I'm not sure if age is a factor. I know of several people who did not qualify for voluntary separation and have been with the company for 15 years yet they still got let go.
