Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

ARs held responsible...

Did you hear? They are talking about making us responsible for four classes. We are ADMISSIONS representatives, not academic counselors. Don't we already do enough? Seriously, no one works harder than an AR. NO ONE! If they do that, they can fire at least half of the ACs because they already don't have enough to do!

Ha, ha, this is funny, AI dose exactly the opposite of what most good colleges do. Most reject 80/90% of the applicants based on grades below a 3.0. You reps are bitching that gutter trash cant attend? Care about the overall quality of the school much? FAIL

It's called taking responsibility for your actions. If you get quality students in the door, there should be no problem. This will make ADA's less likely to prey on people who have no business being in school. It's actually sad that it has to be enacted and you are complaining about it. Maybe you will stop raping the veterans and the poor.

81891...you... hit the nail on the head. Get a student with a 1.2 GPA, have them write an essay that a 2 year old could write, then a personal statement about their horrid life growing up so they get a pass on all things in life. I used to reject letters that blamed the teacher, they all blame the teachers...what will change in a class at AI? Nothing...

Half the time I just let them stay rejected ....had 27 on a class of 16 in October and they were not dumpster students....most are still attending...there are good students out there...lol...had one co-worker that enrolled a former con, and he had all the jail guys calling her to line them up when released, she had awesome PDR's. Alas, none of them had the app fee, and even the original guy never started, but she got the "one call" daily from the hoods in the pen.

Normally one gets credit for the start when the class rolls. Period. Now it they want you to maintain retention as well...well...UOP tried that a few years ago and it sank like a turn in a punchbowl. If nothing else it will throw some responsibility on the ADA's to enroll students who can do more than fog a mirror. Speaking of, it is all smoke and mirrors .I never hesitated to not take an application, some folks just need a push out the door rather than being pulled in. If you have integrity, you will find the good students stick on your roster...don't throw hate back at me, I speak the truth.

Left AIW several months back, not missing the BS, but loving this site.

Responsible for what exactly? Making sure new students are registered for 12 credits?

Wake up people. Most of you have common sense, or at least I'd like to think so. But then again once you've been working for EDMC for so long, sometimes you get dumber. Anyone with a living brain cell and some level of common sense realizes that this is not feasable. Don't be surprised if this is EDMC's "excuse" to lay more people off.

Pass four classes, some of the kids recruited could not pass four classes in more than a year. It sounds like a feeble attempt to not pay AR's and get you guys to work for free.

Oh wait you mean four classes as in one quarter. Even better for you. It gives props to the ARs who enroll students who stick around and not to the douchebags who scrape dumpsters to hit their targets.

That's a year from now. You seriously still plan on working here a year from now?

And how honestly is this a bad thing? If you're doing your job well you don't need to worry. But you do need to worry about some people around you who will enroll anybody and not care about their likelihood to continue. So this is ultimately bringing you more respect. I doubt this is about you having to advise the students once they're enrolled. It's about enrolling students who the rest of the school can actually keep enrolled. Embrace the integrity.

But, I also return to my earlier point - you think you will still be here a year from now? You think any of us will? So embrace at least the pretense toward integrity.
