Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Is it Me, or did no VPs in El Segundo get let go?

While I'm hoping against cronyism and failing upwards (two of Mattel HR's strong points) I haven't heard of any VP or higher people that were let go in ES today as part of this. If this is true, this really is a sign that this is just more of the same, and we shouldn't expect different results. If VPs fail repeatedly, fire them - don't move them to another group. It's never worked and it's demoralizing. then again, if none of HR got let go, it's status quo and protect people instead of doing what's right for the company.

Besides the VP of marketing at FP, I haven't heard of any other VP-level people being let go.

There is absolutely the "vp" treatment for VPs when they are let go...the marketing VP @ friends was let go late Wednesday afternoon after 5 to spare her the humiliation the other felt the following morning.

You can totally lay off folks with a contract. Nickelodeon just did it, some with 18 months left on their contract.

One marketing VP vs. hundreds of worker bees - and that Marketing VP wasn't in Barbie. Very telling.

Besides, it wouldn't be keeping with Mattel signature style to have VPs being laid off with the rank and file workers...they obviously deserve a business class layoff procedure.

Sesame Street made sense to lose - the only toy that ever made money was the feature elmo doll. I'm sure if you look at sales of feature elmo vs. feature mickey, it wasn't a loss. Disney princesses was a bigger loss, and that's from the arrogance of Ever After High - Hasbro was able to say we'll treat you as our #1 girls brand, not #4 after Barbie, Monster High and Ever after high. Think of the team steering the Barbie ship over the past three years. It wasn't the designers or engineers that caused the decline - it was poor leadership.

It's a shame the hard workers have been let go. Those steering the ship are the ones at fault. Did an engineer or designer loose the Sesame Street or Disney licence or was it the cost conscious, at the expense of good product, loose it. Lost the magic. Perhaps we can fire the parking lot guards or custodians and fix things.

Doesn't make sense. Yes vps and above have contracts but with a layoff that was planned months ago, you can plan their exits the same day. This wasn't a layoff that was slapped together in the past week. Hence my concern that they went for the junior people and not the real problem - ineffective leaders making bad decisions or setting poor examples for their team.

Only one (not very popular) VP was let go in NY, the other who should have been is still in power and continues to fail miserably. Thank god I'm in marketing.

VP and up hits come later in onesies and twosies, not the mass layoff of the worker bees. Execs have contracts and are harder to "'liberate" than the bulk of the "at will" employees.
