Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Short Term Thinking

Here's a true story about Salisbury Cathedral: after five hundred years or so the roof had rotted out and needed replacing. Conveniently the guys who built the cathedral had also planted new oaks around it. Five hundred years later those oaks were just ready to cut down for the new roof!

Short-sighted Mattel management never plans past their next bonus.

The bell curve was one thing, what killed me is the fact that you weren't supposed to give a 1, a 4 or a 5. So screw the bell curve, it was such a setup. I know people who had crap reviews who are still there protected by the same senior management that approved the layoffs. That script is such a load of horse shit. The direct supervisor couldn't barely get the words out.

Oh my gosh- the TRAC posts are perfect. A complete waste of time. Do the folks running the company know our managers tell us there needs to be a bell curve in their ratings? That no matter how everyone did, bell curve it. There should be a 360 review process in place. Then I could've shed some light on how my former bad abuses the etime system by not filling in absences. Keep the thieves. I'm sure that's working for you.

Congratulations on your Above Expectations Anonymous81255! Let's give Mattel an online TRAC review. How do you think they did on their MAT PICS?

I'm chuckling as I read this since I got an above expectations on my review yet I was still let go. I just wish my boss had the decency to let me know ahead of time so I didn't have to bother with this years Trac reviews, I worked on mine and reviewed others as well, could have had all of those weekends and nights back (god knows I never had the time to do then AT WORK). Sigh.

AGREE

Mattel is very skilled in layoffs. They get an above expectations.

They identify months ahead of time exactly which worker bees are candidates. Man, you know they talk about it. VPs are gathering feedback at one on one meetings with managers, directors, listening for which employee does this and which employee does that. They don't necessarily want to fire a superstar or someone hyper critical. And then they also got to have time to prepare the packages.

They claim they don't want to do it - maybe I believe some of them, but man, you can just smell this coming again. You can even read in between the lines in the email communication from the top. There's another wave coming soon. Layoffs are becoming a habit and a convenient solution to please the stockholders. Like flushing a toilet. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they already chose who's gonna go at the next layoff.

Can't count on anything anymore. Have a plan, you got to if you work for a company like Mattel.
