Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Weatherford and Options

about insurance. There is no such thing as Obama Care. That was a BILL that was passed in order for people to get health insurance with government assistance if you fell within the guidelines to qualify. After your insurance runs out with Weatherford, contact an insurance agent and they will be able to present to you all the insurance companies and their rates that are available to you in your area. You don't necessarily have to go with Blue Cross and Blue Shield. There should be other companies competing for your business. You will be required to make a minimum amount to qualify for the government to pay part of your premium but your insurance agent can tell you about that and guide you toward a company to enlist with. Also, your unemployment cannot be applied for until your severance or whatever pay to cover the weeks of work last paid. Then there is a waiting period before you can apply but you can call your local unemployment office and they will have all that information for you. Make sure you check on penalties for withdrawing from your 401K unless you are of retirement age. You don't have to move it anywhere for a while. It's not mandatory that you move it; it just won't be funded any longer after your departure from your company. Hope this helps a little. We have been in the field for over 30 yrs and this is not our first downturn but we think it might get as bad as the one in the '80's so collect your unemployment and you might want to search for jobs out of the field for a while. Hopefully 2017 will be a turn around

Check with your farm bureau. A long time ago, I was out of a job and was able to join the state farm bureau and get blue cross insurance policy for a reasonable rate. This might apply to some now. Good luck and I hope that everyone manages.

https://www.healthcare.gov/ LOL. No, it isn't about politics. The politics of it are over. When you have no income, you have no to low income, your payments are at a minimum. Ever heard of thick as a brick? Last response from me on the matter. I do hope it has helped some of you. It has worked for me. Good luck.

and you are right...Medicare/Medicare/and the ACA ARE three different things. No argument there. Bashing people here that might not have ever had a need to study up on this is uncalled for. These folks didn't have a reason to worry about this..until the need arose for insurance coverage without an employer. They would have qualified for the Medicaid EXPANSION had it been passed in Louisiana and Texas. I have a family member in Ohio. Unemployed..with full free medical coverage. WV accepted the Medicaid expansion so everyone working at jobs like McDonalds, etc. are now fully covered ...at no charge to them because they do not make enough to afford a policy under the ACA (which helps pay for the preimiums for low Income earners.

Many states accepted the Medicaid expansion offered by the federal government for those people unable to qualify for the insurance policies that were upgraded by the ACA. You have to have a certain income to get insurance with the government paying part of your premium. In addition to that program, there was another offer of an extension to Medicaid to provide insurance coverage to those that had jobs but could not afford to buy into the policies that the government was paying part of the premium afforded to them by the new ACA. Ohio accepted..so did Kentucky and quite a lot of other states so their residents, though they were unemployed or unable to pay a premium at all, could take advantage of this Medicaid expansion. It was up to the governors of each state on whether they would accept this offer or NOT. Of course many of the southern states declined, leaving their working poor without coverage. So...really..it is all about politics. Had the governor of Louisiana accepted the Medicaid expansion, many of the people in this state would qualify for that coverage. Read up on "Medicaid Expansion"...and look at the states that accepted it. Those states have everyone covered with insurance. If voters voted..and were aware of what their representatives were voting for in their behalf, maybe this travesty would have been prevented.

LOL. No wonder you people were laid off. Totally uninformed. Medicaid/Medicare/ACA are three different programs covering different needs. Not having a job and being unable to provide insurance for you and/or your family has nothing to do with politics. It odes have to do with lack of money and/or prospects. https://www.healthcare.gov/

Yes, there is working Obamacare in certain states. If you want to move to Colorado and have little income you can get Medicaid immediately. Colorado is a beautiful state, you might enjoy it here.

If you don't have pre-existing conditions and don't need a lot of health care, look into "short term health insurance" (google it). It's a lot cheaper but you can only have it for 6 months max (due to Obamacare law).

https://www.healthcare.gov/ Check it out people. If you don't have a "condition" which requires your existing medical professionals, then look at this before COBRA. It's not about Medicaid or governors or anything else except affordable health care coverage. IF this works for you, make sure you don't purchase medicine, etc. on COBRA or you will be obligated for paying for your COBRA coverage. You can apply for unemployment benefits immediately. If you receive a "package" they will enroll you and suspend payment until you qualify. It's easier to do it sooner rather than later.

Governors aren't being blamed for Weatherford's layoffs. Baker Hughes, Halliburton also are experiencing a big RIF. Typical oilfield boom and bust.

The governors of Texas and Louisiana denied Medicaid extensions which would help all these unemployed people now have insurance coverage..as well as the working poor that aren't being covered.

Time will tell if one of the biggest oilfield companies are in any more financial distress then Baker or Halliburton or FMC.

The blame shouldn't be placed on the Governors. Certainly there would have been downturns at WFT, considering the drop in oil prices. However, if the executives running WFT would have done their jobs, been honest and run a company they it should be run, many lives would not be so disrupted. The SOB's at the top deserve everything that is coming to them. When this company fails, it will be on their backs. I hope and pray they suffer the most severe personal financial loses of their lives, and once all the dishonesty is revealed they serve some jail time.

sorry about that. Was trying to embed the map on the states that accepted the Medicaid expansion. Unfortunately, the governors of Louisiana and Texas DID NOT accept the expansion which would have helped everyone get free medical care while unemployed.

This map shows the states whose governors did NOT accept the Medicaid Expansion...the states colored in blue accepted...the others did not...so Louisiana and Texas are out of luck...Shame on those governors! (be careful how you vote next time!!)

In addition to the insurance information, if you live in a state that accepted "extended Medicaid" (Louisiana did NOT) then you will qualify for insurance coverage free. I don't know if Texas governor accepted it so you might want to check to see if your governor thought enough of it's people to have accepted the extended Medicaid for those that have little or NO income. This may not have been important to you when you had a job with benefits but now it may be very important for you and your family as it was for all low income people that can't afford insurance.
