Tier 4 Stores Layoffs

Just been transferred to a tier 4 store about a month ago. Now, just got solid conformation that my store will be closing by the end of the first quarter. My thought would be, that would've the same for other tier 4 stores. There just isn't enough hours for staff, the one AM is doing everything

I think my GM knows more than he/she says. Tier 4, cut hours, tasks impossible to complete. We barely block anymore. They just work us to exhaustion with out the hope of actually being good. Poor thing over at copy center had 5 people waiting with no time allotted to actually do any manufacturing. Two people in entire store after close with pressure to get off the clock. If it is not an intentional cash grab our set up to fail then management are idiots and just bad people.

To Anonymous75945 - I have seen situations like this. As others have said, the DM absolutely knew. I would call HR and really push to find out why. You really don't have much to lose and it could be enjoyable to push the DM's buttons. The obvious answer is the DM or someone higher wanted to get rid of you, but it could also be that the manager who's place you took had friend sin high places and they had the manager transferred out to avoid the closure.

To Anonymous76490,

No, I haven't been written up for anything or put on a PIP. My thoughts were the same, DM knew it was going to close. Just wanting to know why they would do that because I haven't been told that I've been a bad manager. And I don't know if my rate is too high, or least I don't think so. I know other managers making much more then me.

It is not just T4 stores. Staffing vs. customer traffic is out of line at every tier. Framingham just does not get it. Bitch and moan and threaten jobs because of bad CSATs, bitch and moan and threaten over store conditions, bitch and moan and threaten over staying within tight payroll constraints. What they do not understand is how much time customers take up. It is not simply a matter of saying "Hi, how can I help you" and then walking them to the item. These people want their hands held through out the whole time in the store. There are the ones that come to the tech counter and want free tech advice, There are the ones that have no idea what ink they need or printer they have , but expect store staff to just know. There are the ones that hold up the one cashier because they can't just look up their Rewards points at the register. Then there are the CPC customers who expect everything to be dropped while they have an associate literally do their proposal for them, or their kid's project, while they wait, with 10 other people in line behind them. Framingham needs to lay off the Kool-Aid and work in stores to get a dose of reality.

You got transferred a month ago and are just now hearing the new store will close? You can bet your ass the DM and HR knew about the closure before you were transferred. Have they offered you another transfer afterwards or just severance? You should really push this and find out why your DM moved you there knowing the store was closing. Did you recently get write-ups or put on a PIP? Do you make more than your peers?

We also just transitioned to a tier 4, except we have no AM yet as the position has not been filled. Just the GM. It is literally hell on Earth. Projects remain unfinished on the sales floor, several key shifts are not staffed, it hurts so much to watch customers walk out the door because we just don't have enough people to make it work with only 230 some hours for payroll. I can't tell you how depressing it is watching what was once a great store go down this path. It is troubling.
